Holiday Holly Tee

Looking for a fun Christmas break project? Try this quick technique to customize a basic tee shirt!

**GIVEAWAY UPDATE: We have a winner! It's Patricia, who said, "My favorite Christmas decoration is the very first one we got 43 years ago this Christmas. It was an Angel dressed in red with yellow hair. It was given to my first born son Robert who was 2 weeks old that Christmas." What a great memory, Patricia! We'll be in touch via email soon :)

To make this project, all you need is some fabric paint, cardboard, a paintbrush...and of course, a tee!

Draw a holly leaf shape onto a piece of cardboard. For reference, mine is about an inch long from top to bottom.

Cut out the holly leaf, and also cut a strip of cardboard. Bend one end of the strip, and glue it to the back of your leaf to make a handle.

Use the paintbrush to 'ink' your stamp. Do a couple practice stamps on some scrap fabric -- it took me a little while to figure out how to transfer the holly leaf shape most clearly.

When you feel confident, slip another piece of cardboard in the middle of your tee (to protect the back from any possible bleed-through), and go for it!

I decided to do an all-over pattern, but you could do leaves in clumps or pairs, or make several different sizes of holly leaves, or....!

Then, use the back of the paintbrush to make the holly berries. Let the tee dry thoroughly, and heat-set the paint following the directions on the package.

And ta-da! You've got a finished shirt!

Giveaway closed! Thanks to everybody who entered!

And, as always, thanks for following along today. Have fun with this!

For Pixie Faire,

Melinda

My favorite Christmas decoration isn’t just one thing it’s a collection of Angels I have that line the stair case in my foyer. I first wrap the banister and posts with white lights. The dolls sit on the outer edge of the stairs as well as being attached to the banisters. The wall also has a few angels hanging on it. I love “my girls” and plan on making an angel outfit for my AG doll so she can be apart of the decorations.

My favorite Christmas ornaments are the plaster of paris ones made by my girls when they were small. One in particular starts a lot of conversation as we decorate our tree. It is one that is one of the three kings, but when they inserted the hanger they put it in the beard by mistake and it still goes on the tree each year.

As I sewed them I kept thinking they weren’t cute but as I sewed they each took on their own personality. Reminding me none of us are perfect. My favorite Christmas decoration grohl as early as I can remember is the angel tree topper. As a child my day always lifted me up so I could place the angel at the top of the tree. In fact when my second husband and I married we bought a new lighted angel. After he died I spent several days in Cannon Beach. I visited the Christmas shop and bought a new angel to start my traditions alone. I chose a beautiful ceramic angel which also was lighted. It has since been my fav on the tree…nearly 20 years.I feel it reminds me I will once again see my husband when I die and go to heaven.

My favorite Christmas decoration as a child and an adult is the tree. As a child I remember dad getting a real tree and we would spend the day after Thanksgiving decorating the tree. Each year I purchase or made a new ornament for my tree.

My favorite Christmas decoration is when my husband and myself went to the beach one year and a whole lot of silver dollars washed up on the beach. We collected over 60 of them. I looked on line and found out how to bleach them. I took them to my daughters house and the grandchildren helped me decorate them with glue and glitter. We then threaded ribbon through one of the holes and every year we hang them on our tree. They are the most precious ornaments that money could never buy!

My favorite Christmas decoration is my tree top angel. It belonged to my grandma and I have kept her at the top of my tree for over 30 years. I pack her lovingly each year and when I get her out to go on the tree she is still in beautiful condition. My gram made her out of a plastic bristle broom , some coppery stuff for wings and a dowel for head, glittery pipe cleaners for her arms. She holds a christmas song in her hands like a caroler. I always loved her on grams tree and when she died I asked for the angel. So that is my favorite Christmas decoration.

My favorite Christmas decoration is the hand crocheted angel my mother made for me approximately 10 years ago. I had saved an article published by an acquaintance about her memories of an angel given to her years previous by a favorite aunt. That is the last Christmas decoration she puts out and as she does she remembers her aunt and all the great memories that aunt had blessed her with. Now I too am without my mother, but I remember all the great memories I have of her and am reminded of all that she taught me even though she had only an eighth grade education. She gave me the love of music, baking, and the love of sewing! So many memories crocheted in that 9" angel. Last year it came off the top of the Christmas tree and sat on the mantel all year long to encourage me.

My favorite decoration are two handmade carolers, a boy and a girl, one about 12" tall one about 8" tall, their clothes made from stiffened colored burlap, over obsolete glass soda bottles, paper mache painted heads. From a dear friend over 40 years ago. She thinks a woman made them from a kit, maybe from the obsolete Lee Wards craft store. I have never found any like them or a pattern or anything similar to make them for my friends. Very unique. Absolutely love them.
