Here's another fun look keeping with the 80’s fashion theme! Remember that iconic look when girls would wear an off-shoulder oversized shirt and a cool belt? This style was often paired with leggings and scruched slouchy socks, ankle boots, or those super stylish leg warmers! Well, this week we wanted to share a quick and easy pattern hack of the Liberty Jane Off Shoulder Tee pattern with you so you can bring this look front and center for our dolls eighties styled wardrobes!
This pattern is also available for a variety of other doll sizes, which means you can create this look for them too!
Bonus! Be sure to scroll to the end of this post to enter the Giveaway for a $50 Pixie Faire gift card!
Oversized Off The Shoulder Tee Supplies:
Step 1: Print out the two pattern pieces: front and back. Go ahead and cut them out as well. Now tape a piece of paper under both pattern pieces.
Step 2: Using a ruler to measure and for a straight edge, make new cutting lines 2 inches below the previous hemline, and extend each side down to your new hemline. Then cut out your pattern pieces using your new cutting lines. (The pattern as it comes does not give you extra fabric to turn up as a hem. It lets you finish with a raw edge. For knit fabric I prefer a hem, so when I line the factory hem up with the bottom of the pattern piece, it’s all done in one step. If you would like to add a turned up hem instead of a raw edge and you are not using a factory hem, then extend your pattern pieces 2 ½ inches instead of 2, and turn up a half inch hem at the very end of the pattern instructions.)
Step 3: On the front pattern piece, at the shoulder where it meets the neckline, measure in ¼ inch and make a mark. From this mark make a curved line, gradually blending in with the front center neckline.
Step 4: Repeat step 3 for the back piece. Then trim off both small curved sections, making the neckline wider and a bit bigger.
Now you have your two modified pattern pieces!
Step 5: Now you are ready to cut your pieces out of your chosen fabric. Remember to line up the bottom of the pattern pieces with the factory hem if you are using upcycled clothing. (For the burgundy fabric, I trimmed off the lace after cutting my pattern pieces, as the lace was sewn under and free of the factory hem.)
Step 6: Now sew your tee according to the pattern instructions! The only other modification I made from the original pattern design is sewing the shoulder seam all the way to the sleeve hem, you can choose to do this or sew it with following the instructions, it's your preference!
Complete the look with a new belt made from his tutorial, accessorize with a few fun necklaces, pair it with leggings, and style your doll in her new 80’s oversized tee!
Thanks, everyone!
