Back to School Art Supplies Tote

Back-to-school is right around the corner! Here's a fun and easy tutorial to make a tote for all your doll's favorite art supplies, so she can take them with her everywhere.

I decided to use a person-sized pad of tracing paper, and cut it down to doll-size; but you can sometimes find little memo pads in the stationery section that are already the right scale.

Now that you have your materials and tote-ables selected, it's time to start sewing!

To give your finished tote a little more stability, use some interfacing on one piece of backing fabric.

Next, prep and attach your pockets.

Then, it's time to add the backing.

Congratulations! Now your doll is ready to make art anywhere!

Let us know in the comments if you make this -- I'd love to see your version!

What did you use for the colored pencils?

You could use post it notes for the pad of paper. That way if the doll uses the drawing pad it could be replaced easily. There is a great tutorial on making pencils on youtube. I found a package of 1/8 dowels at AC Moore. To be in scale the pencils are a little bit smaller than 2 1/2 inches. I cut the package of small dowels down. One side became the pencils and the other side became markers. II painted them white with colored caps. The longer dowels you sharpen in a pencil sharpener. Paint the dowels and tip with paints. So I got a set of markers and colored pencils out of one. I made a box out of duck tape to hold my pencils. You can up load from the net a picture of the pencil box and print it out and tape to outside of duck tape box. Hope this helps..

This is soooo adorable. My daughter has her own kit and she will DEFINITELY love this doll-sized kit. Can’t wait to give these at the holidays. Thanks so much for the idea!!!
