Supplies:
• Fabric scraps in red, white, and blue colors
• Fabric scissors
• Jewelry wire
• Wire cutters
• Wide ribbon
Step 1: Make a circle with your jewelry wire. Depending on how thick and strong your wire is, you may want to make it double thickness. Cut your wire long enough to overlap the ends and twist together. We made our wreath about 6 inches in diameter, but you may want one bigger or smaller.
Step 2: Using your fabrics, cut little strips. We made ours about 4.5 x 1 inch wide. It certainly doesn’t need to be exact, but they do all need to be similarly sized. You will need a lot of these! We cut less blue ones and more red and white ones since we will need more of those. But exactly how many you need will depend on your fabrics and your wreath size. We just kept our fabrics nearby so we could cut more strips as needed.
Step 3: Begin tying your fabric strips onto the wire. Only use a single knot. Try and make sure the ends sticking out are even and about the same length, and try and make it so that the right side of the fabric is turned up. We want as much of that red, white, and blue to show as possible!
Continue tying on fabric strips, beginning at the top and going down the left side first. Alternate with blue and white fabrics first. We ended up using two blue strips and then two white strips. Keep adding fabric strips and pushing them back against each other so it is packed tightly. Continue until a quarter of the wire circle is covered.
Step 4: Once you’ve reached the one quarter mark, switch to using just red and white fabrics. Again, we found using two red and then two white fabrics gave a nice look. Continue tying, pushing them back against each other, and fluffing your tie ends as you go. Once you get to the top again, push one more time and add more fabric strips in the empty space. The fuller your wreath is, the better it will look!
Step 4: Once you are done and you like the look, cut a long length of your wider ribbon to loop around the top of the wreath to hang it with. If you want, you can tie it on so it will stay in place.
And that’s it! Hang it in your doll room, on your doll front door, or it would even make a cute decoration in your own home! And remember to revisit this craft for other holidays as well. A Christmas one would be so cute!!
