Hi Everyone! For the month of June we're continuing with our Summer Sportswear theme with several new patterns, tutorials, and pattern hacks!
This week I have a brand new pattern - The Liberty Jane Match Maker Bubble Dress - ready to go! I'm loving this design, and so did all the testers! It's so simple and yet so cute! Perfect for a variety of outdoor summer activities, including Pickleball!
Along with my newest pattern is this fun crafty project to make the perfect miniature accessory! Follow along in the video and get the full details for the craft below.
Here's a fun and easy DIY craft tutorial for making a Miniature Pickleball Paddle using foam sheets and other kid-friendly supplies. It's perfectly sized for an 18-inch Doll and makes a great pretend play accessory.
2mm & 6mm craft foam sheets (black, gray, or fun colors)
Double-sided Tape or Adhesive Sheet
Sand Paper or Foam Sanding Block
Mod Podge
Washi tape or colored athletic tape (for grip)
Pencil, pen, or market
Scissors (or craft knife with adult help)
Cut out the template provided. Find it in the SWC bonuses section or included in the Liberty Jane Match Maker Bubble Dress Doll Clothes Pattern
Trace the template onto 6mm foam (once).
Cut out the paddle core.
Trace the paddle shape twice onto your 2mm foam (front and back).
Cut out both foam pieces.
Use Washi tape or colored athletic tape to wrap around the handle like a grip.
Spiral it upward for a realistic look.

If you're looking for inspiration for crafting a realistic miniature pickleball paddle for your 18-inch American Girl Doll, here are some photo examples of popular pickleball paddles. These images can serve as inspiration for your DIY project, helping you capture authentic design elements and styles. These examples are from Walmart and Recess.com
When designing your miniature pickleball paddle for an 18-inch doll, consider incorporating the following elements inspired by the above examples:
Color Scheme: Use vibrant colors like pink, green, or patterns such as leopard print to make the paddle visually appealing.
Materials: Utilize 2mm or 6mm thick foam sheets for the paddle face, and chipboard for added sturdiness. Wrap the handle with decorative tape to mimic grip material.
Personalization: Add initials or names using stickers or paint to give the paddle a personalized touch.
Accessories: Create a matching miniature pickleball using a small foam ball painted accordingly.
The paddles are such a cute idea! I’d actually never heard of Pickle Ball until reading this… when I first saw the picture before reading I thought they were Ping Pong paddles lol! Now I can wait to make a set for my dolls :)
