Embellishments - Fabric Flowers, Lace Trims, and Ruffles

Hi Everyone! Today we go deep into embellishing with fabric and lace trims. I love this type of embellishment because it adds interest and a unique look to your item without adding additional cost. Using what you have on hand to create something that stands out is the goal here! I'm excited to share with you what I've learned!

In the videos posted below, I share with you a tutorial on making fabric flowers and then we take a closer look at using fabric or lace trims to add ruffles or design interest to your items. I hope this will encourage and inspire you to try something new!

Pattern Overview:

Resources:

  • Shop local - look for fabric stores that have a specialty fabric/bridal section. Pacific Fabrics in Nothgate (Seattle,WA) has a fantastic bridal room! Britex (San Francisco,CA) has a whole floor of trims and notions, you may be able to source some online as well. Mood (NY and LA) also have a large selection of trims and notions, link goes to an assortment of lace trims under 1".
  • Cotton Lace - I cam across this shop at the Puyallup Sew Expo a few years ago, the tiny cotton laces I showed in the video are from here. They are beautiful, imported from France, definitely worth perusing this site!

Week One task:

  • Watch the videos :) Then go to work and try out one of these techniques! I'd love to see an item that you've embellished with fabric flowers, ruffles, or lace trims. Share them under this post in the Facebook group.

Next Tuesday  - Week 3: paining on fabric...

I survived Irma with hardly any damage to my house. The stash is intact. What a strange experience the hurricane was. It moved east just in time so I didn’t lose everything. Your prayers and special wishes worked. Thank you, my friends.

I loved both of these videos. Great ideas. I did try the link suggested for these videos and it did not work for me. Is there a different password that I need. I have been with Sewing with Cinnamon from the beginning, but have only been able to access and download Sewing with Knit, Pockets and Closings. I am a bit confused how to access the later videos for downloading. I love the classes. Thanks.
