Hi Everyone! Today we get to have a bit of fun and get our hands dirty while learning some fabric painting techniques! This is a fun embellishment that you can add to a variety of items. There are many different types of paints and a variety of painting techniques to use which result in a large variety of outcomes - which is fantastic! This is something anyone can do, there are simple techniques and more complicated techniques- you don't have to consider yourself an a painting artist to use paints on fabrics. Of course, if you have that skillset, then you can really take this type of embellishment to the next level! There are some amazing designer examples, just browse Pinterest... Gucci comes to mind, but there are a lot of examples of painted denim and leather, it's all pretty inspiring!
In the videos posted below, I share with you a few techniques using liquid fabric paint, fabric paint markers, painting freehand, using stamps, and more. I hope this will encourage and inspire you to try something new!
Video note - I've used freezer paper to stabilize the fabric for many of the techniques. It's super easy to apply to fabric and it peels right off. Simply place the paper shiny side down and press with a hot iron for 5 seconds or so (I had more set on the cotton setting). The paper will adhere, but can be easily peeled off. You can use it on the wrong side of the fabric to stabilize or on the right side of the fabric to create a stencil design.

HI! Can someone remind me where I go to find the links to download the PDFs of these classes? I know I’m obsessive, but I like to keep a copy. I did it for the first four months and I can’t remember where the link is.

To heat set the paint, simply press with heat (not steam) from the back side of the fabric following the instructions on the paint (different types have different instructions), generally, it’s about 30 seconds in a circular motion.
Thanks Cinnamon. Purchased paints, fabric markers, stamps many months ago. Time to break them out and play!. Would also be great for doll quilts.
