Sewing With Tiny Hardware: Part 1

Hi everyone, I'm excited to introduce a new course. This one is something I love so much in this world of fashion and miniature. It's Sewing With Tiny Hardware! So these hardware pieces are going to be things like eyelets, grommets, buckles, overall buckles with rivets, attaching rivets to things like jeans and a denim jacket, different types of buckles. belt buckles, all the little teeny tiny metal pieces that really just bring the authentic look to all of these tiny doll clothes pattern projects.

This course will be broken apart into four installments.

  • In Part 1 we will take a look at the application methods for installing eyelets.
  • In Part 2 I'll demonstrate a few different methods for putting in rivets.
  • In Part 3 I'll show you how easy it is to create functional belt buckles
  • In Part 4 I'll demonstrate adding flat pronged rivets for a updated look!

With each video tutorial we're going to touch on our tips and techniques for successfully working with tiny hardware and work through the challenges that might come up as we create different things, jackets, shoes, dresses, and historical pieces. There are so many different applications. So I'm really excited to jump into the this course and invite you to join us for this journey!

Are you ready to jump in and get started? In Part One we will revisit a video created for our Simple Closures course - How To Install Eyelets and Create Lacing. In this video I will demonstrate how to use single piece eyelets and two piece eyelets with washers, while working on the Mindel Beach Dress and Boomerit Falls Jacket.

You can find the Mindel Beach Dress pattern in the SWC Bonuses section. We've added that as a new bonus for 2024 because it includes a variety of design elements that you can use to practice various skills taught in SWC.

The Boomerit Falls Jacket pattern is one of my favorite designs! I encourage you to try that pattern if you haven't already! It might seem intimidating with close to 30 pattern pieces, but the end result is just fabulous! You can find full Pixie Pack kits for this pattern too! It's available pin the classic tan/white combo and a beautiful shade of lavender corduroy paired with a Liberty Lawn!

The Crop-o-dile is the tool I'm demonstrating in this video. It is a great resource and allows you to set a variety of eyelet sizes! Here's a chart showing the different options it is designed to work with.

Looking at all the different sizes of Crop a Dial tools . . . what is the best size for using with 18" and 14" dolls?

Thanks so much, great video. mc
