Stylish suits with "knickerbocker" pants were worn by American boys from the 1880s through the 1930s. This PDF pattern includes five garments:
Dress Shirt with turn-down collar, button front placket, shoulder yoke, and box-pleated back;
Knickers with front pleats, working pockets, and faux front fly;
Single-Breasted Waistcoat, fully lined, with convertible collar;
Newsboy Cap with paneled crown topped with fabric-covered button;
Necktie sewn in a four-in-hand knot.
Recommended Fabrics: Shirt: cotton poplin, gingham, chambray, or shirting fabric; Suit: Wool or linen suiting, cotton twill, featherwale corduroy; Lining: Imperial batiste or Bemberg rayon.
Supplies Needed:
-Shirt: 1/3 yard lightweight woven fabric. Wrong side of fabric will be visible on shirt placket, so select a fabric without an obvious "wrong" side.
-Suit: 1/2 yard medium weight woven fabric
-Lining: 1/3 yard lightweight woven fabric
-Tie: Scrap (6" x 10") of tie silk, silk jacquard, or cotton pique
-Notions: Thread; scrap (6" x 8") lightweight fusible interfacing; scrap (2" x 6" of buckram or heavyweight sew-in interfacing; 5 - 3/8" shirt buttons; 4 - 3/8" suit buttons; 3/4" cover button kit; 1/4 yard 3/8" elastic for waistband; 1/4 yard 1/4" elastic for necktie
