Recommended Fabrics: taffeta, silk dupioni, or heavy satin would work well for the body of this dress - any fabric with a crisp hand and some “crunch” that will hold itself out when gathered. Use an optional underlining “backing” fabric to help stabilize the bodice (try several combinations: light underlining with heavy fabric, heavier backing with lighter fabric. Cotton muslin, batiste, and flannel are all good choices). For the lining, any lightweight poly or silk fabric will do; use a soft chiffon for the optional shoulder drape

This dress was a joy to make for my granddaughter who requested a “glittery wedding dress “. I have yet to adorn it with the glittery stuff and give it a thorough pressing, so it is not quite finished. The construction is very similar to a ladies gown with the underlining and lining, more intricate than most doll patterns but easy enough to do, especially if you have some experience with formal dresses. Just take your time and enjoy the process. The pattern was very easy to follow and well written. One reviewer commented that the waist was tight, but I found being very careful with exact seam allowances , the fit came out perfectly!
Love this pattern! Yes lots of pieces, yes, the armholes are tricky, so is the swatch of color on the side. Result is fantastic. You would think that I would make a test version, since I was going to use expensive fabric. You would think that I would use a thinner lining since it also inner lines but NO, I jumped right in. The result is a combination of a wonderful pattern and my own tenacity. Only major hiccup is the swath of color on the hip. narrower than I wanted. (so sew and learn) Including a photo so you can see the result.
This is a beautiful pattern. I found the armholes to be a little too tight, but I love the dress overall. It takes time and patience to make because of the many bodice pieces and the fact that each piece needs a backing and then lining but the end result is worth the extra work. An outstanding pattern
The only difficulty I had was the bodice fits very, very tightly. I can barely get the zipper up and down and my daughters certainly cannot.
Easy pattern to cut ou but the instructions were not really clear putting the bodice together especially the insert at the waist. Am making the dress in velvet , beading the shoulder strap and attacking a net petticoat to hold out the skirt
