Pirate Hat Story Book Collection: Toppers 18" Doll Clothes

6   |

Every swashbuckling buccaneer needs a beloved pirate hat to complete their outfit! The tricorne hat, also known as a three cornered hat, is the classic pirate hat. This style of hat was popular during the late 17th and 18th century, then referred to as Cocked Hats.
Tricorne hats have a rather broad brim, pinned up on either side of the head and at the back, creating a triangular shape. The hat is typically worn with the point facing forward.
Your hat can be made from felt and accessorized with decorative trim, feathers, hat pins, buttons, ribbon, tulle, etc. Directions are given for making a rosette medallion also known as a Cockade.
Historically, cockades were used on hats to help identify or associate the wearer to a particular group or position. Cross Bones artwork is included to make an iron-on patch.
This PDF sewing pattern can also be used to make a Cowgirl Hat by cocking two sides or a Cavalier Hat by cocking only one side of the hat brim. It’s so easy you will want to make more than one.

Fun and easy

I used this pattern to make colonial tricorn hats. The instructions are great and with just felt and bias tape, these hats look very authentic to the period.

A pirate hat for Grace

A little more involved than I had thought but I got it completed. For Halloween my granddaughter was Disney's UMA, from the Descendants. They bought the outfit and hat I made the wigged hair and attached it to the hat for her. She is still playing and dressing up, so I made the hat and wig for the American girl truly me doll Grace. It is adorable, I'm sure she will love it.

I made the pirate hat, twice. They look great! I do suggest premium felt, it's worth the price. I plan to make more!

Cutest hat ever

First time I messed up. I didn't read the directions . but felt is cheap , so I had extra. The second hat I followed step by step and it is the cutest hat ever. My husband Dave toke a look and said pirate? Its always helpful when somebody can tell what it's supposed to be . lol.

Hat made the costume

This hat was the perfect topper for the pirate outfit I made to swap. It was easy to make although I needed to pay more attention to the amount of seam I used. If I was slightly off, the top didn't fit in the brim so I had to take it apart. The hat fit perfectly.
