The Hooded Bog Coat by Thimbles and Acorns is a modern variation of an ancient Celtic coat design. Made from a single rectangle of cloth that is cleverly clipped, folded, and stitched together, this coat is an interesting combination of historical ingenuity and origami. This unlined knee-length coat features a roomy hood that extends into a decorative front yoke and closes in front with three buttons or snaps. Once you understand the basic construction, it is a super quick and easy pattern to put together.

For this one, I really recommend following along closely! The instructions are clear, but it’s an unusual garment construction. A bit challenging, but the results are charming.
I feel like I should get a math credit for this one. During this lockdown, I think this would be a perfect pattern to sew with someone who's interested in engineering and design. This is a pattern of angles and shapes. Honestly, like an Agatha Christie novel, I couldn't tell how it was going to turn out until the end. Then surprise! I was amazed when I sewed the last seam. If you like solving puzzles, you'll love this one. Shari's a magician to turn a rectangle of fabric into this cute little coat. I took my fabric inspiration from a lady at a quilt show wearing a patchwork coat like this. (Oh, I added the front pockets to match the quilt lady's coat.) Have fun!
