Miniature Easter Diorama

UPDATE: Thanks to everyone who entered our giveaway! It is now *CLOSED* and the winner is comment #21, Lori, whose favorite way to color eggs is "….with my family all together. We heat the water, add some vinegar and all sit around the table coloring, painting and laughing. It’s a wonderful big mess." Sounds like fun, Lori! We'll be in email contact with you soon. :)

Get ready for Easter with this fun little decoration! Done up in miniature, it's a great size for your favorite doll. You can follow along in the video tutorial or scroll down and follow each step with text and step by step images. Enjoy!

You'll need a paper mache egg (the kind you can find at craft stores about this time of year), some felt, paint, modelling clay, and of course, little figurines. I found the mushrooms pre-made, but ended up sculpting the bunny and tiny eggs out of clay myself.

Make a base for your egg with modelling clay; harden it up following the directions on the package.

Draw on your egg, to figure out where you want the opening to be. Tackle it with the exacto knife (but be careful; roly-poly egg plus sharp knife can be a little dangerous! )

Then, it's time to paint. I painted my egg, the stand, and a few of the figurines.

Once your egg is painted, go ahead and glue some felt scraps down into it, to build up a base for your scene.

Glue in your figurines!

Then, glue the egg to its stand. Make sure the egg is straight in the stand, before the glue sets....

And there you have it! A super cute little piece of Easter decorations.

NOW: would you like to win this decoration, instead of having to make it? How cool would that be?

To enter, just leave a comment on this post, answering this question: "My favorite way to color Easter eggs is..."

We'll randomly pick a winning comment on Monday, 4/7, and contact the winner via email. It's that simple!!

Thanks, and have fun crafting and entering!

Melinda

I like to pretend I’m Faberge and decorate the eggs with metallic inks.
