Get ready for Easter with this fun little decoration! Done up in miniature, it's a great size for your favorite doll. You can follow along in the video tutorial or scroll down and follow each step with text and step by step images. Enjoy!
You'll need a paper mache egg (the kind you can find at craft stores about this time of year), some felt, paint, modelling clay, and of course, little figurines. I found the mushrooms pre-made, but ended up sculpting the bunny and tiny eggs out of clay myself.
Make a base for your egg with modelling clay; harden it up following the directions on the package.
Draw on your egg, to figure out where you want the opening to be. Tackle it with the exacto knife (but be careful; roly-poly egg plus sharp knife can be a little dangerous! )
Then, it's time to paint. I painted my egg, the stand, and a few of the figurines.
Once your egg is painted, go ahead and glue some felt scraps down into it, to build up a base for your scene.
Glue in your figurines!
Then, glue the egg to its stand. Make sure the egg is straight in the stand, before the glue sets....
And there you have it! A super cute little piece of Easter decorations.

Vinegar & food color tablets from the kit. I let the kids do the coloring so we get lots of mixed colors and different drawings from the wax pencils.
I like coloring on the eggs in crayon before dunking them into dye.
Still use the vinegar and food color tablets in the kits available at all the grocery stores. Draw pictures and write names with the wax pencil included in the kit. Some times the kids want to put the tattoo stamps on the eggs but usually prefer to draw own designs!
I like those pre printed shrink sleeves that you slip over the egg then dunk in hot water. No mess and usually really cute designs! We always were in a rental condo for Spring Break vacations with the kids, so this was a great way to still do eggs for them and not worry about staining someone’s counters or carpets.
My favorite way to color Easter eggs is…. Food dye, colored pencils, markers, and felt with super glue! So many creative possibilities! :-D
