At Pixie Faire, we offer doll clothes patterns for 18 inch dolls such as American Girl Dolls, Madame Alexander Dolls, Our Generation Dolls, My Life As, and Springfield Dolls. Here is an Illustration showing the body measurements for several of these types of dolls with a picture of them side by side for clarity. This first set of images lists basic measurements in a few places. To add clarification to the chart, the waist is measured at the side tag, hips measured around the largest part of the bottom, chest measured right under the arms, arms measured to the wrist, and legs measured at the inseam to the floor.
Here is a picture with 4 different American Girl Dolls and their slight variations in measurements. Mia is the biggest doll that we have and Molly is the smallest and has a slightly longer body than all of the other AG’s that we have. Most AG dolls that you are sewing for are made by Mattel, if a customer has a Pre Mattel doll they usually know it and know that they are a bit Chubbier. The Pre Mattel doll that we have doesn’t seem to be that much bigger, but most are. The LJC Patterns have been fitted to the Mia Doll’s measurements.
Here are a few updated charts with more indepth side by side measurements. First chart is for 18 inch dolls similar to American Girl body type and fit. (right click to save the image to print it out for future reference, or view larger on your home computer). We recommend using these measurements as a guide for determining which patterns might work for a doll you have that we don't specifically design pattern for. The illustration shows where each measurement has been taken. Err on the side of a bit larger and make modifications from that pattern.
This next chart shows several other types of dolls' measurements that we have specifically designed pattern for here at Pixie Faire. The shaded columns identify similarly sized dolls. These patterns may be a close fit for both dolls.

I’ve been told that Kidz n Cats dolls and Magic Attic dolls are similar in size. I own a MA doll, and have ordered a KNC doll (it has not arrived yet). I do know that I have used KNC patterns for my MA doll and they do fit nicely.
Thank you for the measurement chart! Is it possible to add Magic Attic dolls? My grown daughter still has her’s and would like more clothes for it and her children. Thank you.
These charts and measurements are great. I need to know what doll the Magic Attic dolls are closest to. Going to measure my Magic Attic dolls and compare to the charts.Will post an update.
@Dawn S (Feb. 28/2017) re the sizing for the AG BOY doll. I just completed a summer wardrobe for him using a few of the girl patterns offered by Pixie Faire and did not encounter any problems re fitting. That said; only thing that I suggest is add a tad more to the side seam allowances namely through the hip/waist area so not be quite as fitted and depending upon style, slightly lengthen them. As for long sleeve lengths they will remain the same, but you may wish to tailor them a bit to reduce fullness. i.e.: In sewing a shirt. Also for the tops as sewing for the male gender; remember to reverse the button overlap and single pocket placement if including one. (Front closures on pants remain the same.) To summarize; the pattern pieces are tweaked slightly and read over the reviews as they may have to be adjusted to begin with. i.e.: For the Liberty Jane Skinny Pant Pattern I added an additional ¼" to the side seam on each leg from the hip down (= a total of ½" each leg) and they fit beautifully as a ‘fitted straight leg’ jean using a denim fabric with a next-to-none stretch.
