Since pretty much everything I make, whether sewn, painted or cooked, is gifted, I’m not really sure which is the most meaningful.
One project that comes to mind is a quiet book bag of activities based on the funny stories of Pat McManus. I made it for two little boys whose family introduced us to his hilatious books. I had a color matching page based on “The Night the Bear Ate Goombaw,” a shape matching page based on “The Mountain Car,” a marble maze and an I-spy. I even found an ugly stuffed dog which the boys recognized right off as being Strange the Skunk Dog.
So, I suppose sometimes the most meaningful gifts I’ve been able to make or assemble have been the ones geared specifically to the recipient.
I have had some gifts that were meaningful to me because I spent over a month making them special, but they went to children in other countries so I never got to see if they liked them or not. I can only hope they felt the love that went into making their gifts.
The most meaningful gifts I have made are quilts for family, friends and veterans.
The most meaningful gift I made for someone is a cotton blanket I knit for our first little great nephew. And I just saw a picture of him flying home sound asleep and wrapped up in that blanket. I’m just tickled to bits!
The most meaningful gift I ever made was throws for my granddaughter. Sadly we buried her wrapped in it.
The most meaningful gifts I have made were crocheted dolls for an online organization called Feel Better Friends the dolls were for mentally and or physically disabled children all over the USA and 3 countries. I crocheted the doll and sewed outfits for them to match what the kids were wearing in there pictures. It gave them a friend like them to share what they were experiencing. I also sewed 500 or more double layered masks for free during the Covid epidemic and are still making them for free for anyone who asks for them.
