For most sewing projects, standard sewing supplies are used and easy to find. For a variety of doll clothes patterns the supply lists recommend doll scale supplies and notions. Over the years we've come across a few of our favorite places to find these items:

I shop for fabric, trims and notions at Joann fabrics. However, I have really good luck shopping for fabric at thrift stores purchasing infant and toddler clothes to recycle fabrics. Sometimes I can even reuse the trims. The clothes usually have large enough pieces to cut out doll pattern pieces. The children’s clothes have perfect scale prints, and even the fabric weight and drape is good.
I have trouble finding anything doll size and I live in a very large city (Edmonton) in Alberta. I love that Pixie has patterns for Journey dolls for us Canadian sewers and find an easy “twick” here or there many other patterns that work too.
Tiny buttons and buckles are so hard to find and they are so important to the look of an outfit.
Doll size zippers are difficult for me to find, particularly tiny separating zippers.
I’ve purchased baby clothing at garage sales to use for fabric and buttons. This is a good source for small prints of knit fabric.
Rib knit fabric is difficult for me to find. I sometimes buy rib knit tank tops on clearance at Walmart and put them in my stash.
I have bought cat collars in the pet section at Dollar Tree for their buckles..
I recently noticed that the zippers in the laundry/net bags at Dollar Tree have smaller zipper pulls that might be appropriately sized for doll clothing – only white
I would also like to find a source for 1/2" D rings
I shop for doll supply everywhere (Walmart, local fabric shops, etc..) .I have the hardest time finding little zippers and buttons
