For most sewing projects, standard sewing supplies are used and easy to find. For a variety of doll clothes patterns the supply lists recommend doll scale supplies and notions. Over the years we've come across a few of our favorite places to find these items:
- Home Sew - Check out thier Cinnamon's Favorite Things collection! Find 5" and 6" separating zippers in both nylon coil and metal teeth styles, narrow hook and loop tape, tiny buttons, and buckles.
- Zipper That Doll - Find tiny separating zippers and closed end zippers
- Zip It - Find a variety of colors of invisible zippers
- Girl Charlee - great selection of ribbing and knits

I shop for everything I sew at Sew What’s New in Islip, NY. They have everything I need and are great with doll clothes - sewing advice, classes, and notions. Very friendly and helpful!!
I shop for interesting or vintage fabric at local thrift stores.
I shop for basic buttons at Joann’s, unique buttons on eBay, shoe soles at Pixie Faire, and I make my own piping (it’s easier than it looks).
Ecery time I visit NRe York City, I try to schedule some time to go to the Fashion District. There are some many stores with a wealth of products, including Jonathan Buttons (they will make button holes while you wait). There is also a kiosk on 7th Ave – you just tell them what you are searching for and they will direct you to the best shops for what you are looking for.
I have had the hardest time finding the little buttons for the doll dresses.
I shop for fabric primarily on line at Hart’s Fabrics (thank you for the tip Cinnamon!), Farmhouse Fabrics, etsy, and other stores. I shop for ribbon and trims on etsy-there are a wide variety of sellers. I prefer to see and feel fabric in person but most shops locally cater to quilters so choices can be limited.
