My favorite sewing tip or trick is to always wash the fabrics first. Seems like common sense, but I forgot once and then went back to work with the fabric and the first time in the dryer it shrunk down real nice—It was a good reminder!

My favorite sewing tip is to use Udderly Smooth hand cream. Original Udderly Smooth Udder Cream is a greaseless, stainless water-based moisturizer that will not stain or leave a residue on your fabric. Especially good this time of year when hands are dry.

When working with faux fur:
1.trace the pattern on the wrong side of the fabric with ink.
use a craft knife or box cutter to gently cut through the lines. Pull the pattern piece away from the main fabric. The fur will separate easily. This is great for long fur that you want to hang over the edge of the hem. No more cutting off the fur edges with scissors. The pieces look better and there is less fiber mess to clean up when you’re done.

My favorite sewing tip/trick is to change your sewing machine needle frequently. I teach quilting classes and am amazed how many students say they only change their needles if they break one! A sharp burr-free needle will give you a much better end result. When quilting, I change my needle at least once per project; if the quilt is a large one, I change more often. When sewing smaller things such as AG doll clothes, I change the needle about every 8 hours.

My favorite sewing tip is use your iron!! It’s the only time I use mine! lol Beginners—press your seams & everything goes together much more smoothly. You can often pick up a fat pillow for ironing called a “tailor’s ham” or a tiny travel ironing board that folds flat, from thrift stores for next to nothing, so no huge ironing board needed. Also, clip threads at end of each seam.

My favorite sewing trick is to keep thin strips of Velcro or generic “hook & loop” tape. I learned to cut thick/wide hook & loop tape lengthwise-into halves or even into thirds. I use the thin strips for my doll clothes, but have learned to use the thin strips on even my adult size pillows & other household items that I sew. So learning doll sewing techniques has changed my whole approach to sewing anything, not just doll clothes.

My favourite sewing tip or trick is embellishmenting using buttons. When placing buttons on a front faux placket for instance, use buttons which are layered on top each other. The larger one on the bottom with a different contrasting color or pattern & holes lined up so they can be hand sewn at one time will give the item more detail & a special touch!

My favorite tip is to use fold over tape to finish waists on pants or skirts. I do a slight variation when up cycling baby clothes into doll clothes. I cut 1/4 inch away from finished waist band on baby pants. After creating the doll pants or skirt I sew on the save waist band. A quick and easy at to have a matching waist band.

My favorite sewing tip or trick is using the iron-on interfacing for knits cut in narrow strips and ironed on the knit fabric where the hem will fold over on it. Then, when sewing the hem, it prevents the hem from stretching out of shape and can be easily pressed back into shape where it might have stretched a little. I learned this tip on the Sewing for Knits video by Cinnamon and it is the best tip ever for sewing with knits.
