I shop for notions at my local (more than an hour away) fabric and doll supply store, and I don’t get there often enough!
I only buy remnants.so little goes so far,especially fir the wellie wishers. And shop in my own stash.
I do a lot of shopping at surplus and thrift stores. I love to think outside the box when it comes to fabric. I teach children in an after school program the ages are 5-12 and with no budget for fabric I tend to look at all things as useable fabric. I once bought a pack of 75 suede like large 16″×16″ cleaning towels for $1. Sometimes it’s a little more work but in the end it is worth it. Children’s close lend to small prints and small notions sometimes friends who have ripped or stained clothes from kids or grandkids will gift them to me to see if I can use anything before the item gets trashed.
I have the hardest time finding small buttons, small zippers, and small trim such as rick rack.
I have the hardest time finding scale-appropriate notions like overall fastenings.
For other items I’ve learned to get creative. When slide letter bracelets were popular I stocked up on I’s and O’s to use as faux belt buckles.
