On my dolls it’s a floppy brim. For me it USED to be the Peruvian earflap hat, until I knit this gorgeous alpaca one with fair isle llama’s going around it. I was so proud of it, until I put it on. I looked like the full moon bought a hat. I gave it to my niece, who still has some bone structure in her face and she looks great in it. So mostly I go hatless and make pretty ones for the dolls.

My favorite type of hat is any of the three dozen in my vintage hat collection. I have a pink satin saucer like hat that makes me think of Audrey Hepburn, and a pillbox one that reminisces of Jackie O. Some hats are fancy with feathers and brooches, some hug the scalp, some have frail netting, and one reminds me of an old school marm. They’re all pretty interesting and I wish I knew the stories of the ladies whose estate sales from where I got most of them. The first three were from my great granddad’s wife.
