I made the decision 1 year ago to move my sewing room out of my sewing/craft room into what was my guest room. I decided if I had guests I would treat them with their stay at a Hotel. I just don’t have guests and the room is sitting not being used.
I studied gif months the wonderful sewing rooms posted to Pinterest and started thinking and designing, measuring and thinking until I had a very good idea what Zi thought I needed. Then I started wrapping my fabric 2 yards and under on the cardboard making fabric bolts to see just how much fabric I had to put in shelving. Then estimated how much more was in the tubs of fabric I had too! Then I contacted a contractor and we started the project! First by doing a major purge of 2/3 of my house by calling one of those junk services! Wonderful…in an hour guise 2 young men moved out 10 PCs of useless furniture, lamps and just plain junk! A full truck load. Good news is I’ve not missed any of it. Then ordered dozens of various sizes of clear plastic storage containers and proceeded with more purge and getting all those sewing notions collated together into their container. Good grief how could a person have sooo many zippers, pkgs of elastic, and sewing machine needles!! I’m still locating pkgs of needles. I chose clear containers so I could see what was inside. Managed to fill my living room with containers as the work continued. Finally emptied everything out of the guest room and the contractor started his work! I still get butterflies when I look at the completed room. My own sewing only room. The first thing to do was to see how many bolts would fit on one bookcase. 397 bolts and I have 2 shelves left more. Next step to moving in the large cuts in larger clear plastic containers and all the notions into the room. I took advantage of every square inch of space from floor to ceiling—7 bookcases, 3 pegboards and a custom sewing table in the middle of the room for my embroidery machine and serger with shelving in each end instead of legs!! It is a treasure as is my contractor. He transferred what was in my head yo the room and then some!!!!
I’m now going to do the craft room much the same! It’s been a lot of work getting ready for the build but now even more work trying to figure out just what goes where!!! Best gift to myself ever!!! The prime directive is use whst I have first…THEN buy more, ha! Ha!
My biggest challenge is fabric storage. I keep small bits and scraps and don’t know how to store them neatly and orderly.
My biggest organization challenge is keeping my current works- in -progress in order so that fabric pieces and pattern pieces stay together and don’t get mixed in with other works.
I love crafting with my scraps and it is a true challenge to keep them organized and kept looking nice
My biggest sewing organization challenge is space! I have none in my current home.
