Hi everyone! Are you ready for this? It’s time to discuss cutting fabric with a cutting machine!
This week, Donna will be sharing about Cricut’s Rotary Blade technology which makes it possible to cut fabric on the Fabric Grip Mat without the need for bonding the fabric! She will also discuss the Bonded Fabric Blade and when you might prefer to use it.
The SVG file this week is from the Peplum Top pattern by Liberty Jane Clothing. Find it in the SWC Bonuses section along with the full PDF sewing pattern.
Donna will also share the secrets of creating a cut file in Cricut Design Space using that pattern. You will be able to take this information and create your own personal cut files from any PDF pattern pieces that will fit on the cutting mat. You won’t want to miss that!
Note: Just remember that the pattern designs are copyrighted by the original designers and you can create SVG duplicates for personal use only.
Grab your note pad and get ready to learn something new. This is what we’ve all been waiting for!
Thank you for joining us on this topic. There is still so much more to learn about and do with cutting machines, but we hope we have shown you enough to help you make an informed decision as to whether you will be adding one of these to your list of tools! I’ve certainly learned a lot this month and hope you have too!
Nancy – For the straight of grain on the example I did in the video, I used the center back line because I checked it in the pattern and saw that it was parallel to the straight of grain arrow. I think if I needed to add a grain line that wasn’t parallel or perpendicular to any of the straight edges of the pattern piece, I’d probably add it on to the jpg with my photo editing outside of the cut lines of the piece before I ever tried to upload it to Design Space. Then once I got it into design space, and got it lined up on the canvas, I could hide that line so that it doesn’t get cut.
I am enjoying this class and wonder if you have any suggestions on adding/retaining the “straight of grain” arrows on pattern pieces that are not cut on the fold?? I would think it necessary to line up the top & bottom of the arrows on a grid line to ensure your pattern piece is positioned correctly. I still need to figure out a way to mark my fabric to ensure it is laid on the mat with the fabric grain being straight in regard to the mat’s grid lines.
thank you!!!! thank you!!!! this has opened my eyes to a new world! imagine all the sewing we can do if we have the machine cutting the pieces,….. just so happy with this class.
Thank you again, now I just have to save some money and get the Cricut machine with all the extra supplies
circut should hire you!

I’m sorry I use a scan n cut to cut out all my patterns and my fabrics. I store them and bring them up when I get ready to sew..
