Sewing With Ribbon - Ribbon Manipulation Techniques

This week we are going to take ribbons to another dimension. Sounds a bit like a sci-fi experience, but in reality I am just talking about going from flat application to three
dimensional application.

Ribbons come in a vast array of beautiful colors, textures, and prints and the simplicity of their design makes them a very practical adornment for hair, clothing, and packages. The very simplicity of the ribbons however, lend themselves well to
more spectacular applications.

Ribbon manipulation techniques were really popular during the Victorian Era. The Industrial Revolution had made ribbons cheap and plentiful and dressmakers came up with ingenious ways to fold and manipulate ribbons to create beautiful trims. Godey's Lady's Book often demonstrated ways to manipulate ribbon so even the average home seamstress could create these beautiful trims to adorn her dresses and hats.

In this weeks video, I am going to show you two of these ribbon manipulation techniques that work really well for doll-size applications and they will look just as delightful on a trendy outfit as on an historical gown.

The patterns used for the ribbon demonstrations are the Open Pelisse and Regency Dress and the soon to be released 1870s Literary Society Bustle Dress.
