1776 Riding Habit 18" Dolls Clothes Pattern

  |

The 1776 Riding Habit was one of the earliest forms of ladies sportswear.  Patterned after menswear, the fully lined jacket features a split front opening that fastens at the neckline with two hook and eye closures and cleverly displays waistcoat underneath.  The curved lapels are a patriotic nod to the military uniforms of the time.  The lapels, collar, cuffs, and pocket flaps can be left plain or embellished with decorative embroidery or braid work using the options included in the pattern or your own custom design.  The bottom of the jacket features a wide peplum with a kickpleat at the center back and a fanfold pleat on either side that help to create the wide hips of the 18th century silhouette.  The jacket is finished with twenty-four decorative buttons.
The simple waistcoat underneath fastens in front with four small buttons and can be adjusted in the back with lacing for a neat fit.  Snaps and decorative buttons can be used, if preferred.
The outfit is completed with a simple 18th century pleated petticoat.  The bottom edge of the petticoat is finished with bias trim for extra durability.
