Who can forget going to their first "Formal?" This pattern is based on a dress I wore to mine, back in the '70s. I felt so grown up!
The Flossie Potter 1970s First Formal is short dress (high-thigh length) with empire waist and bishop's sleeves. It has a stand-up lace collar, lace trim on the fitted cuffs, and an optional ribbon with front bow.
The PDF sewing pattern contains 12 pages of step-by-step instructions with full-color illustrations, full-size pattern pieces, and 3 pages of printable summary instructions (to let you save on printer ink).
When you make this dress for your doll's first formal, she'll feel grown up, too!

This is another great 70's style dress. Good instructions and photos make it easy. Love how she does the velcro closure on the sleeves.
This pattern is a great pattern to make if your AG doll is a little older than the 9-10 year old persona. The bodice construction on this pattern gives the doll a more "pre-teen" body type -- perfect for a first dance. Lots of techniques to make this a fast sewing project. Designed with velcro closure at the wrists and back, you'll get this one done with no hand stitching.
Love the continued emphasis on period patterns. I am making 70's patterns to give to a friend getting Julie as her first AG, so this one's timing was perfect. Good pictures and easy to understand directions make this a joy to sew! Have fun.
