Daisy Stitch Jacket 18" Doll Clothes Knitting Pattern

4 reviews   |

The Daisy Stitch Jacket, by Genniewren Designs, is a versatile short outdoor coat that's perfect for your 18” dolls.

The jacket is knitted from the bottom up, with separate sewn in sleeves. The button and buttonhole bands are picked up and knitted along the front edges and the neck is finished with a knitted collar, or a hood – your choice!

There are no complex color-work techniques used in this pattern. The daisy knit stitch pattern is worked in simple stripes, with two rows in each color. The jacket examples have been knitted in three colors, and the row by row instructions reflect this, but the jacket could just as easily be worked in two colors, four colors, or even a plain single color with just a couple of colored pattern repeats at the lower edges of the hem and sleeves if you prefer. It's your jacket, so knit it your way!

The daisy stitch pattern gives a crunchy texture to the jacket that looks a little like crochet. Although the stitch may look complicated it is relatively easy and quick to knit. The pattern includes an optional headband so that you can practice the stitch and make something for your doll before you start to knit the jacket.

The pattern is written line by line with photo instructions for confident beginners, and includes a line by line summary without photos for printing.

This PDF knitting pattern is designed to fit 18" dolls such as American Girl®.

Suggested yarns: Fingering yarn

 - For US knitters, most Super Fine yarns marked as yarn weight 1 will work with this pattern and you may find that some yarns marked as Fine (yarn weight 2) may also work, depending on your gauge (tension).
 - For UK, Australia, New Zealand and South African knitters, 4ply or sock yarn is recommended.

Supplies Needed:
- One pair of US Size 2 (metric 2.75mm) knitting needles, or a circular needle in the same size if you prefer (or whatever size needle you need to use to make the required gauge/tension).
- Optional – one US Size 4 (metric 3.5mm) knitting needle – needed only if, like me, you bind off tightly.
- Blunt ended yarn needle for darning in yarn ends, sewing the sleeves and collar, sewing on buttons.
- 5 x 3/8” (9mm) buttons for the front closure of the jacket.
- 5.75 oz (150g) fingering yarn (total weight) - one 1¾ oz (50g) ball of fingering yarn in each of three colors should be sufficient to knit either option, assuming a minimum of 182 yards per 1¾ oz (166 meters per 50g).

Daisy Stitch Jacket Knitting Pattern

This little jacket is knit using a daisy stitch, which was a new stitch to me but easy to learn. A nice part of this pattern is the instruction for knitting a headband- a great way to learn the stitch before starting the jacket! I knit the hooded version and the completed jacket was a very good fit on my OG brand doll. Nice pattern, Genniewren!!

Beautiful texture

As usual, Genniewren Designs has produced an outstanding pattern. The directions are thorough and well-written. The stitch texture is rich and thick, and the color possibilities are endless. I made mine in Knitpicks stroll tonal, a wool blend that has subtle shade variations.

Daisy Stitch Jacket

This jacket was so intriguing I just had to try it. Just a little different from the standard fare. Although the knitting was not difficult once you are used to the pattern it was a little labour intensive. Not a quick knit but well worth the effort when you see the results

Very Unique Sweater Coat and Headband Set

I just had to knit this sweater the moment I saw the photo. I was intrigued by the texture produced by the overall daisy stitch. Even though it is knit from fingering weight yarn, the stitch produces a very warm sweater coat. The pattern is very detailed and includes helpful tips on the knitting process. As I was knitting this sweater, I stopped often to admire the stitch and colour combinations. The stitch used is a bit time consuming but the result makes it so worth it. I want to do another in a solid colour to let the stitch shine on its own.
