Dressing Baby... for Winter in the Cabin Doll Clothes Pattern for 8" Baby Dolls

2 reviews   |

Winters were extremely cold on the prairie with freezing winds and even snow often sweeping into cabins through cracks. Bundle up baby on cold winters days in the cabin with this flannel wrap petticoat with adjustable ties that fit as baby grows. The sleeveless petticoat makes dressing baby simple by laying baby on the back then crossing each front side over, ensuring baby stays as warm as possible. Cover baby's head in the soft, warm flannel infant cap, essential to keep baby warm right after a bath.

Put on a long sleeved cotton gown over the petticoat for even more layers to keep baby cozy! The gown fits over the petticoat and features a mandarin collar, cuffs, and snaps closed in back. The gown and petticoat bodices are lined and the skirts feature finished seams to prevent any irritation to baby's sensitive skin.

Both boys and girls wore long gowns for the first years of life to help keep babies from crawling into the many dangers of daily life, such as an open fire on the hearth, a burning candle, or a blazing hot cook stove. A shorter gown and petticoat is also included for when baby starts to toddle around the cabin. While "grow stripes" were tucks added for fast growing children, these tucks were often included on infant gowns for optional additional decorative detail. This warm ensemble is perfect for baby all winter long.
