Fab Forties is a vintage-inspired dress for your 18” doll. The dress buttons down the front, showing off the gently curved sweetheart neckline, typical of the 1940’s and early 1950’s. The full skirt is gathered into a pointed waistline, and easy directions are given for a perfectly fitted seam every time. Depending on the fabric choices, you can achieve the look of a “vest” over the dress, or a charming summer dress. The flower appliqué pattern is included for the vest version. Two sleeve options are available; a short puff sleeve gathered into a band or a feminine flutter sleeve. Both versions can be made with or without the sash, which ties in the back with a bow. Special techniques are introduced that create a professional finish on the inside.
This PDF sewing pattern is designed to fit 18" dolls such as American Girl®.

I used this pattern and followed the instructions to a "T". I also read the reviews for helpful hints. The Velcro closure instructions, using the "lite" Velcro, worked like a dream. The hem seemed a little long, so I did adjust the length. I found a single flower pattern and used my embroidery machine for the vest. I was very pleased with how my dresses turned out.
I absolutely adore this pattern! It does take a little extra time and finesse to sew but the end result is so worth it! It can be super dressy or fun and colorful or somewhere in-between, depending on the fabrics that you choose. I would highly recommend this pattern to anyone with just a little sewing experience.
I have a number of intermediate skill patterns from Pixie Faire, that I adore to make. This pattern is more of an Expert level than Intermediate. If you are up for the challenge, Fab Forties is lovely when finished.
This pattern makes up really cute and the instructions were easy to follow.
