Fab Forties is a vintage-inspired dress for your 18” doll. The dress buttons down the front, showing off the gently curved sweetheart neckline, typical of the 1940’s and early 1950’s. The full skirt is gathered into a pointed waistline, and easy directions are given for a perfectly fitted seam every time. Depending on the fabric choices, you can achieve the look of a “vest” over the dress, or a charming summer dress. The flower appliqué pattern is included for the vest version. Two sleeve options are available; a short puff sleeve gathered into a band or a feminine flutter sleeve. Both versions can be made with or without the sash, which ties in the back with a bow. Special techniques are introduced that create a professional finish on the inside.

I love this pattern. When I started, wasn't sure how I was going to like doing the gathers. One of the reviews below mentioned the problem of over-marking the fabric. I love my water soluble marking pen. I found that it was really, really helpful to have the gathering and stitching lines marked so precisely. And some extra placement tips were given. I made my entire dress out of a mini-check fabric and rotated the side vest pieces so they were on the bias. The buttonhole template and tips were great. It turned out really well.
Very cute. Turned out great. Next time I won't mark so heavily. Used dark blue cotton w/ white polka dots and cant get out chalk marks. It's still darling.....looks very 40's.
This dress has a unique construction that is fun to do. It yields a completely lined bodice. Depending on your design choices you can have many different looks. This one is worth trying.
Love this pattern. You can have 3 different looks depending on your material choices. Don't be afraid to try this one. Very good step by step instructions and photos to help you make this unique dress.
