Let's Send Our Love! A 1944 Holiday Dress for Eighteen Inch Dolls

The “Let’s Send Our Love!” dress is inspired by a charming pattern published in 1944 by Simplicity Pattern Company. The front bodice is Basque-style, curving to a point in the lower center front, and the bodice’s center front neckline is softly gathered to form a corresponding sweetheart dip. The bodice joins the shoulders through gathered front yoke pieces.  The front and back bodices are shaped with darts for a flattering fit.  The short sleeves, called petal or tulip sleeves, are lightly gathered through the sleeve cap.  The skirt has four panels, fitted with darts at the back and gathers in the front.

The dress design reflects fabric rationing restrictions of wartime 1944 but still retains graceful, feminine lines and a pretty silhouette, perfect for holiday parties.  The design can showcase a cheerful vintage-style print fabric or an elegant solid colour fabric, and the sleeves and neckline may be embellished with lace or ruffles.

As a bonus, included with the pattern are nine adorable doll-sized vintage printable holiday greeting cards and matching envelopes, perfect for your doll to send Christmas, Hanukkah and season's greetings to her doll friends and family.

This pattern was developed for the confident beginner doll sewist and assumes that you are familiar with common sewing terms and techniques.

Techniques included in the pattern: assembling a tulip sleeve, setting a sleeve, sewing darts, sewing gathers, and adding a facing to a dress.
