The “Stepping Out” pattern, by Karen Lorraine Design, consists of four clothing items: a skirt, an asymmetric short dress, an asymmetric long dress, and a Little Bo Peep dress. Primarily designed to fit the Ever After High™ dolls, they will also fit Monster High™ and other similar sized dolls. (Note: the pattern will not fit the “giant” sized dolls of 17 inches height.)
With the basic short skirt, you have a pretty ruffle on the hem and a quick item to sew up with any stretch fabric. The short asymmetric woven-cotton dress, in comparison, contains a ruffled neckline on the bodice and a trendy asymmetric skirt. The skirt itself has 2 layers: the main fabric and an overlay of tulle or similar.
The third item in this pattern is the long asymmetric woven cotton dress. This gorgeous outfit has a simple bodice connected to a 4-layered gathered skirt. The possibilities of fabric that can be used with this skirt are endless. I have chosen a metallic tulle for the first and third layers, a satin fabric for the second in-between layer, and a chiffon fabric to complete the petticoat layer.
Lastly, the Little Bo Peep woven cotton dress involves a gentle bodice attached to a wide gathered skirt with a separate elastic-waisted petticoat underneath. I have used a brocade for this dress to give a strong colour and a stiff silhouette. A lighter lawn would allow for a softer effect.
Ever After High™ female dolls come in three sizes: tall girl (28cm), medium girl (27.25cm), and short girl (24.5cm).In this pattern, the four outfits will fit all EAH dolls; however, you might want to alter the hemlines of skirts depending on your preference for length.
Due to the design of “Stepping Out”, this pattern will also fit the Monster High™ small sized kid sister, girl and adult dolls. Note: generally, Monster High™ female dolls come in three sizes: adult (29cm height), girl (27cm height), and kid sister (25cm height). There is also a newer “giant size” of about 17 inches, which this pattern will not fit.
Recommended Fabrics: Stretch fabric for the basic skirt like a tee-shirt knit or jersey knit. Woven cotton fabrics for everything else like satin, brocade, chiffon, tulle.
Supplies Needed: Skirt
• 4 ½" (wide) x 2 ½" (deep), stretch fabric (two or four-way stretch).
• 10" x 1" tulle, net or similar (stretch or non-stretch fabric)
• Matching or contrasting thread
• 3mm or 1/8" elastic (or similar).
Asymmetric short dress
• 10" (wide) x 7" (deep) cotton, non-stretch fabric like satin.
• 10" x 7" overlay fabric in tulle or similar (woven cotton, non-stretch fabric)
• Ruffle fabric about 17" x 1 ¼" (tulle, etc.)
• Matching or contrasting thread
• Hook and loop tape, snap fasteners, or hook and eye closures.
Asymmetric long dress
• 14" (wide) x 14" (deep), woven cotton, non-stretch fabric like satin
• 18" x 7" metallic tulle or similar (stretch or non-stretch fabric) for pattern pieces #7 (half skirt) and #9 (skirt)
• Fabric for bottom layer skirt (pattern pieces #10A and #10B), like tulle or chiffon 15" x 8 ½" (stretch or non-stretch)
• Tulle remnant for facing the neckline
• Matching or contrasting thread
• Hook and loop tape, snap fasteners, or hook and eye closures.
Little Bo Peep dress
• 16" (wide) x 4" (deep), woven cotton, non-stretch fabric like brocade, satin, quilted cotton, lawn
• 16" x 3" tulle or similar (stretch or non-stretch fabric) for separate petticoat skirt
• Tulle remnant for facing the neckline
• Matching or contrasting thread
• Hook and loop tape, snap fasteners, or hook and eye closures
• Elastic for petticoat skirt, 1/8" or 3mm wide.
