Hi, Everyone! Are you ready for another pattern hack of the free trendy t-shirt? This one is perfect for summer, it's easy to make, and it's doable in a variety of sizes - yay! This tutorial is brought to you by our fabulous content creator @graceloves2bake, read on to follow along as she shows us how to make a Wrap Dress from the Free T-Shirt Pattern.
I don't know about you, but I LOVE t-shirt dresses! I usually wear mine with sneakers and a jean jacket or a cardigan and sandals. This dress is made with the Trendy T-shirt pattern which is free on Pixie Faire! It slips on your doll feet first, meaning no closures in the back!
What you will need:
Step 1: Go ahead and print and cut out your pattern pieces. Trace the front pattern piece on your paper and then flip the pattern piece over face down as shown in the picture below. Measure and mark one inch below the armhole (¾ for RRFF). Trace from the mark down to the bottom right hand corner of the pattern piece. Using your ruler, draw a straight line from the shoulder seam to the mark you made on the side.Erase the unnecessary lines. Using your ruler, add three inches to the side seams of the piece (3 inches for RRFF as well). Connect the two lines at the bottom. This is now your pattern piece for the front of the dress.
Step 2: Take your back pattern piece and tap it to a piece of paper. Add three inches to the length just as you did with the front. Draw a straight line for the bottom of the piece as well. (I learned this technique from previous Pixie Faire tutorials.) I also added some arrows to indicate that I will be cutting this out on the fold.
Step 3: Now it’s time to cut out your dress! You should have two front pieces, two sleeves, and one back piece.
Step 4: Sew your shoulder seams together. Turn the entire neckline under ¼ of an inch and hem. Hem your sleeves and sew them onto the dress just as directed in the pattern instructions.
Step 5: This part is a bit tricky to put into words, but as long as you follow the pictures it should be easy! It is time to sew up the side seams. Start by lying the doll’s left front side of the dress face up. Then place the left side of the crossover piece on top, also right side up. Next, put the dress’ back left side seam on top, right side down and sew.
Step 6: Now it is time to sew the other side seam. Line the sides up right sides together just like you would if you were sewing the t-shirt. Then lay the crossover top, right side down and sew.
Step 7: Hem the bottom of the dress making sure the front has a double layer. I only turned up the hem once due to the thickness of the front of the dress.
This general idea can work for any of the free t-shirt patterns, you'll just need to adjust the measurement to be appropriate for the doll size. Below is a cute picture of the new 12" Siblies doll (from Ruby Red) wearing a dress made just for her too! Stay tuned next week as we begin posting patterns for the dolls and post a full doll review & giveaway too!

The pattern is so versitale you could make a whole wardrobe from it :)
I think it would be cute in small coordinating prints.
I will make the dress quite simple, add a purse and jewellery and perhaps top it off with a sun hat… I really love adding some beads, flowers to style it up a bit. Last year I made more than 45 dresses, all beautiful, gave some away, sold some, I have one grand daughter who loves them…
I would maybe add some small flowers down the front fold over down to where belted.
Some cute summer sandals!
This is great for beachwear! Stripes would be great
I think I will add one of your free machine embroidery designs to my t-shirt dress.
This is a great project to recycle some old TShits! Going to make some for grandaughter’s doll, and add a headband to match!
I would use a diagonal striped knit to emphasize the crossover, and give a beachy look.
This would be the perfect dress for a 4th of July party! I would use red, white & blue patterned fabric, and add a floppy hat and a purse to finish the outfit!
I would use a bias striped knit for a V look, emphasizing the crossover and giving a beachy
I will use a fun print knit fabric for this dress and a matching flower to adorn a floppy hat.
I have a soft pink, stretchy, striped (used) baby wrap which I think will make the perfect t-shirt dress for my Ruby red doll.
Cute I will be making for my granddaughers
I would add a belt and shoulder bag.
I would add a shrug on my outfit.
Marilyn
Can’t wait to try this. I will add some “Tom’s” to go with it.
I think I will add a shrug with it.
Wow! I feel like I just graduated from Pattern Drafting 101! You make it look very simple. Looking forward to the challenge. Thanks!
Sandy
I am making a new summer frock for Marie Grace. Love the T-shirt dress idea.
Love the idea of making a crossover using stripes or maybe striped and solid.
I love the T shirt dress. The cross cross style is so. Cute. Thanks for the awesome giveaways.🎂😘💋
Love this hack! I would style it some airy summer sandals and an oversized beach bag.
I’m thinking a lovely spring floral print, pinks and greens, maybe a little blue, cute matching sandals. 2 of my granddaughters are wanting a sewing project and this looks like a good one for them to start with. We might even be able to make matching dresses for their younger sisters. Thank you for sharing this pattern.
I would look to my stash and then check out the fabric remnants at my local craft store. So many possibilities.
This is such a cute outfit. It would be nice with some trim on it and add some jewelry to it too.
I can’t wait to try this hack, love the look
I think this would be cute using two coordinating knits, a solid and a print or two prints. Looking forward to giving this a try.
I would use my T-shirt scraps to make this and maybe even longer for a maxi dress. I might use 2 colors for fresh look and I would complete the look with sandals and a hat.
great pattern hack that can be make as a party dress with some embroider or gems incorporated
I would make matching dresses for 18” And. 14” dolls. Add some jewelry.
I would use a white tee shirt to make the dress then tye-dye it for Julie adding cute 70’s accessories to complete the look!
I would embellish the dress and make it for Blaire.
I have left over scraps from making a T shirt quilt. Would make this in plain patriotic colors for my grand daughters at our 4th of July gathering. I love the simplicity of this hack and the look! So cute.
I would make it with a summery floral print.
I would make the underwrap section with stripes one the bias. The rest of the dress from a coordianting print.
This is a wonderful tutorial for a darling style. Thank you
I would used this pattern hack for my Wellie Wisher doll. I am always looking for outfits with simple designs and construction for her because I think that they work best with this size doll. Thanks for sharing this darling dress.
first off I’d like to try using tee shirts that i nought at yard sales, but re still in great shape.
Looking forward to making this dress and adding a little something to it
I would add an indian belt, with fringe.
Very cute!! My granddaughter would love this for her look-a-like American Girl doll
I would add a belt or a scarf!
I would add jewelry and some cute shoes to match.
I would add jewelry and some cute shoes to match.
Always love a simple hack that my 7 year old granddaughter and I can work on together.
I would mmake a sslight adjustment so the front wouldn’t be so bulky. Instead of cutting the whole front on the side that goes underneath, I would cut it off an inch or two below where the crossover is, then proceed as instructed. I would style it sleeveless, with a rib knit trim on the crossover, back neck, and armholes.
I’d like this t-shirt dress in a light solid color -then, I’d ad a long gauzy scarf tied around the neck for an accent/ Easy breezy look!
I like the unconstructed style and would also make it in a soft, drapey floral (knit?) Appreciate you sharing this with us.

So adorable. I would add a little denim jacket and some short fashion boots!
I would make the dress and a t-shirt. My Designer girl 18” doll and a set for my AG doll 14 “ Kendall thanks
I would use a nice summer cotton blend and dress it up with a summer hat and sandals and a cute slouch purse.
I would add a little lace or ribbon to enhance this little dress.
I would style it with complimentary fabrics, then beach bag and sandals. So cute!
I love the look and idea of the T-shirt dress. I have 4 granddaughters so each time I make a garment I have to make 4. I am excited to make this as it will look great and not take too much time per item.
So cute and easy! going on the to do list! I think a pretty floral will be great!
I would definitely add a hat, sandals, and some fabric flowers to the dress.
Love it! I have been making a million little outfits for my niece’s dolls lately, i will definitely use this hack for my next outfit! I actually used the pattern top as a bikini top sewn with lycra.
I can see this full length with flutter sleeves
Cute! Great way to use up knits! I see this dress with a light crocheted shawl for the cool summer evenings out!
Bright colors. Maybe a button where the two pieces meet.
I’m a great one for embellishments. I see ric rack, or laces, or bias trims. Depending on whether its a day dress or a fancy dress you could style with sandles or dress shoes.
I would make this dress for two of my granddaughters 18" dolls
I would add a purse and some jewelry to the dress .
This looks so comfy, I would like one of my own. I would pair it with a floppy or straw hat and a pair of sandals for a day in the sun
Perfect hack looks totally different from pattern but easy to do. I’ll make for my little friend Jessica who tests all my creations on her doll.
I made a cut little kimono top last year that I would put over top the wrap dress with sandals.
With summer sandals!
This is so cute! What a great hack! I’m going to make this for my granddaughter. She loves her 18 inch dolls, and I’ll probably make one for my Ruby red doll as well. One can never have too many clothes. I love using upcycled clothing for small projects.
Such a simple dress, yet so cute with any accessories.
great design – could possibly get me past my fear of knits – i would use the brightest knit i have
I think this would be cute as a mini with boots and a 60’s hat.
Love this hack! I think a cute floral knit pattern would turn out super cute!
Such a versatile pattern! I have two grand-daughters with very different styles. The oldest would be a solid colour or tie-dye with a ponytail and trainers, jean-jacket and a back-pack. The youngest is my frilly girl. Her doll would have a floral print with an embroidered flower at the v of the neckline, lace on the sleeves and the hemline. Sandals or buckled shoes and a matching hairband with a flower on it. Now I need to get sewing ;)
I will probably make a mermaid themed dress for My 6 yo mermaids obsessed daughter’ a birthday party ;) i mean… for her doll, Terry ! They are both getting a mermaid costume too, and this dress would be a more casual outfit for the doll. I love making doll clothes
It’s beautiful. I would just accessorize it with a scarf or jewelry
I’d use a matching belt, sandals and hobo bag. Really cute pattern hack!!
I would change the sleeves to flair sleeves and add a cute straw sun-hat with a matching ribbon and birch sandals
I would use this pattern on my gnomes!!!! Perfect in a smaller size!!! Sure to be a winner!!!!!! ❤️👍
I’ve got some beautiful floral fabric that will be perfect for a tshirt dress.
I’ll make it out of a pretty soft knit and add a hat and purse.
Will make cute dresses!!!
This is so cute! I’d make leggings for cooler spring days, though I think I’d make some lace leggings for an elegant look.
I would simply use two different colors for the pattern pieces.
On my new t-shirt wrap dress I would add a ruffle (ruffled eyelet or ruffled lace or ruffled contrasting fabric) to the whole neckline. To really frill it up, I’d add the same truffle to the sleeves and the hemline, too:) Thank you for reading this! Take care!
I think I’m going to see if I can make this a real wrap dress to use as a swimsuit coverup. If it really wrapped it would be easier for the little ones to put on their dollies. What a cute look.
A cute printed knit and all it needs is sandals and maybe a sun hat or visor. Another choice is to use a lace knit to dress it up.
I’ll make two dresses for my granddaughters Welliewisher doll Ashley. The first will be make out of the scraps from her Easter dress, a knit floral on a black background. I’m not sure what color the second one will be, but I will trim the front outer diagonal with either ric rac or with a narrow floral braid or ribbon I have.
I will also make some for the American Girl style dolls my quilting group donate to a local toy charity at Christmas time. Along with each doll we make a set of clothes so the children can actually play with the dolls.
I will would make it as is for our church fall auction. maybe add some stars and beading to liven it up a little.
I would use T shirt fabric in a floral print and make the dress for my Granddaughter’s doll.
My first plan is to make an Asian-style wrap dress with some gorgeous Japanese knit fabric scraps that I’ve been saving. I’ll use two complementing cherry blossom fabrics that have lovely gold metallic highlights that I think will really add a nice layered nuance. My second plan is to adjust the sizing slightly and add a back zipper so I can make the dress in woven cotton fabric as well. For the second dress, I’m thinking of using several colors for a sixties color-block effect. Thank you for this awesome pattern hack! It’s really cute and the instructions are very simple to understand and replicate. :)
I love the simplicity of this dress and the hat with it. If anything just a bracelet and/or necklace. Thank you for this tutorial!
I would make it in a variety of colors and add some trims and embellishments to change them up. I think it would look cute on Kira and my custom dolls.
add leggins, necklace and hat
Such a cutie. Good way to use scraps. I would use tie dye scraps my daughter dyes and gives me.

I would use a patriotic red and white stripe fabric and embellish with a blue bandana.
