Hi everyone,
On Friday (March 25th) we are celebrating Heidi Mittiga's 2nd anniversary with Pixie Faire by offering her new Turn Of The Century Skirt designed to fit 18 inch dolls such as American Girl®. It will be a free one-day-only special event.
More About Heidi Mittiga and Flossie Potter Designs, (in her own words): As with so many other women, my journey into sewing began with my grandmother. There was never a formal lesson; it was more like watching a musician at her craft and learning through observation. When my daughters got their American Girl dolls, I copied the outfits from the magazine. Later on I began to create my own styles and was amazed when other moms paid me to make clothes for their daughters' dolls! Now I'm a grandma, myself, and I'm interested in designing modern and historical fashions that are fun and fairly easy to sew for people of varying sewing abilities. And to honor my grandma, I put her photo on every cover.
More About The Pattern
The Turn Of The Century Skirt: This skirt is designed to fit 18 inch dolls such as American Girl® and is the sister pattern to the Turn of the Century Shirtwaists pattern. Floor length with elegant lines, the skirt has 5 sets of accordion pleats that form inverted "V" shapes, adding flowing fullness to the hemline. It was designed to fit American Girl (R), but with a small adjustment at the center back, it will also fit Journey Girl(R). The interesting design element is that the skirt is made in one piece, and only basic sewing skills are needed. If you can trace and press straight lines, you can make this skirt! The PDF sewing pattern contains 10 pages of step-by-step instructions with full-color photo illustrations, 6 pattern pieces, and 3 pages of printable summary instructions (to save on printer ink). Create a complete ensemble for strolling through the park with these other Flossie Potter patterns: Turn of the Century Shirtwaists pattern and the Simply Lace Parasol pattern.

We'd love to hear from you! Leave a comment below and thank Heidi!
If you make a cute outfit using this pattern be sure to share a picture using the #pixiefaire and on Instagram!
I have had a problem downloading patterns before. I sent a message and received a quick response. The advice I received helped and I was able to download. The other day, I purchased patterns and now I read the skirt pattern is going to be free this Friday! Here is a tip some of you may find helpful. I always print the complete pattern. When I get ready to cut out and make the pattern, I copy off the pattern pieces and cut from the copies. This way I am saving the original complete pattern. This is helpful just in case I misplace, damage, or accidentally throw out a piece with scraps. Happy sewing to everyone.
When I do what I do every friday to download the pattern, it wants to charge $4.99. Not working :(
Nope. Still won’t download. This happens quite often. Can somebody please fix this?
Thank you, just getting back to making doll clothes, since the 60s.
Thank you, everyone, for your kind comments! For those who had trouble downloading — click on the pattern picture, then click on the red box that says “Add to Cart.” A box will pop up with the option to buy the shirtwaists and parasol. If you want them, click Continue. If you don’t, then remove the number 1 in the boxes. Then click Continue. Now look up at the top right bar (where you can choose designers, dolls, etc) and you’ll see your cart. Click that, and then click Checkout. I hope you have success!
Thank you Heidi. The skirt looks very pretty, and very smart looking.

Thank you so much in advance for the skirt pattern.I love your patterns! A suggestion for everyone: When ever I see a young girl in the fabric section of any store shopping with a parent, grandmother etc, I ask if the girl is learning to sew. I always tell them about Pixie Faire and free-be Friday. I write down the name for them, and suggest that the adult create an account, so the child can get the pattern every Friday. I can’t think of better patterns for a young girl to use to learn to sew as the instructions are so clear. Thanks Pixie Faire!

I absolutely love this skirt . It looks like a skirt my Grandmother wore when my Grandfather was courting her .
Heidi, thank you for creating a pattern(s) that many skill levels can accomplish! It’s so interesting to see how patterns were made in the past, and how much more fabric they had to
use for their clothes-even on a miniature scale!!
Beautiful pattern. I’ll certainly b back on Friday to download it. Happy Anniversary(-:

I love that you remember your grandmother this way. My grandmother taught me to sew and your reference brings back fond memories. Thank you for your beautiful patterns.
Especially nice for history buffs
Thank you so much for the beautiful pattern. You and I share generational sewing experience. My grandchildren have sat on my lap to sew, some before they could reach the foot feed. The memories are like a patchwork quilt of love. That’s what makes your patterns so special.
