I shop for fabrics at Joann’s. They have a many choices, from fleece to party fabrics and often I have a 50% off coupon to use. I shop from my own stash of quilter’s cottons first because I have like to use the small pieces up and the doll clothes do not require much fabric.

I do most of my shopping at three small local fabric stores which are within a 40 minute drive of my home. I do order a few things online (velcro and buttons) but ordering many things online is cost prohibitive because of shipping to where I live. There are no big national stores in my area that carry fabric or notions that I can use. I mainly scrounge and make do with what I can find. That I includes shopping at local thrift stores.

I live in th UK and I shop for fabric from local shops when I can but these have been closed on and off for the last year so I have purchased online from Etsy, Minerva Crafts, Flamingo Fabrics and Amazon and I have been pleased with the customer service from all. I shop for all my doll clothes patterns from Pixie Faire and I love it. It’s the best! I have four Gotz dolls and I love making them clothes. I do struggle with sourcing small fasteners and open-ended zips for doll clothes and I usually use Velcro which is not so authentic but it is good for my granddaughter as it makes it easier for her to dress the dolls. When making clothes for my granddaughter, I often make matching outfits for her doll too. I also have a large stash of fabric at home so I always have a project on the go.

Since the pandemic I have been shopping from my own stash of fabrics, thread and notions. I have bought my fabric from all over. New York, when I was able to go, was the best. Now Joannes is the only fabric place near me. It’s good for some things, terrible for others. Recently a lot of stock and patterns have been scarce.

I shop for snap-in button eyes on AliExpress. The prices are really good, the quality is normally quite high, and they almost always offer free shipping. As long as you are willing to wait a couple weeks for them to get here, it is an excellent deal for projects like ragdolls or plushies.

I also like to get the little travel sewing kits from the dollar store, because they are the handiest thing in the world to have, and they contain everything you need in a cute little zipper pouch for just a dollar.
