For most sewing projects, standard sewing supplies are used and easy to find. For a variety of doll clothes patterns the supply lists recommend doll scale supplies and notions. Over the years we've come across a few of our favorite places to find these items:
- Home Sew - Check out thier Cinnamon's Favorite Things collection! Find 5" and 6" separating zippers in both nylon coil and metal teeth styles, narrow hook and loop tape, tiny buttons, and buckles.
- Zipper That Doll - Find tiny separating zippers and closed end zippers
- Zip It - Find a variety of colors of invisible zippers
- Girl Charlee - great selection of ribbing and knits

“I shop for sewing supplies, doll accessories everywhere, all the time. I rarely go into a store without thinking I could make… or that would be perfect for… I am fortunate that I live in a big city (Phoenix) so I can usually find what I need locally but I often shop online as well.
I have a hard time finding small buttons, small print fabric and small zippers and snaps, etc. Joanns Fabric is the only fabric shop in the area besides a couple of quilting shops. Find Joanns fabrics are not quality fabrics. Wish there were other fabric shops in my area of Northern Massachusetts.
I have the hardest time finding doll-sized zippers, and good fabric/vinyl for doll shoes! Though I do do find doll-sized buttons at JoAnn’s, and I have found doll-sized trims & laces at Simplicity and from etsy stores like Toma Craft Place and Delightfull Designer.
I usually get my supplies at hobby lobby. However, I love checking out second hand stores. I have also found that granny garage sales have amazing sewing finds, they have unique buttons, threads, etc. And all vintage, for super cheap!
I have the hardest time finding any notions for my 18" doll clothes. There are few fabric stores locally and the ones that are here carry a limited amount of notions. I scrounge what I can from used clothing and I am always on the look out everywhere I go to see if I can adapt anything to this size clothing. I have ordered some stuff from China but the quality is not always what I can use. To order elsewhere requires a huge investment in shipping which would make my clothes too costly.
