I shop for doll patterns at JoAnn’s when they are on sale for .99 or 1.99. I try to make good use of my stash but sometimes I have to look elsewhere. I once made a jingle dancer dress and search the web for a company that sold items for native American clothing. They had exactly what I was looking for.
I shop for sewing supplies and notions for doll clothes mostly at thrift stores and estate sales.
I have the hardest time finding cute, decorative, separating doll jacket zippers. I get everything else at Jo-Anns or from thrift stores or from my stash. And I have an abundance of fabrics and trims to make many 18 inch doll clothes. This year will be especially fun because my 4 year old granddaughter just got her first American Girl Doll for Christmas. Now I’ll be sewing for both of them. Hopefully making several girl and doll matching outfits.
I have found really great trims and notions at our local thrift store. They sell vintage trims that are doll size in original packages for .25-.50 cents USD. =) I am very lucky. I also shop the remnants section for small doll scale print and clearance t-shirts for solid knit fabric. I have found Hobby Lobby also has neat doll scale buttons and trims. The hardest thing for me to find locally is zippers and FOE. Those have to be bought in the bigger town 40 miles away.
I shop at the usual chain stores fordoll supplies, also Amazon and online sewing supplies and notions stores. I always have my eyes open for items that might easily be converted to doll size usage. I’ve found Dollar stores sometimes have items I can use. You can get hair accessories that convert well, especially tiny clips.also cloth covered hairbands work well as they can be cut and resized and used for belts . I wish iI could find Velcro type fasteners that were narrow and softer as the actual size ruins the look of the items. Also would like some buckles sets for shoes and belts.
I shop for most of my doll clothes supplies in my own stash first. Tiny buttons and snaps, short zippers, and such I inherited. Then I go to Hobby Lobby. or Amazon.
I buy doll notions wherever I can find them; JoAnn Fabrics, online and even at thrift stores and garage sales (cannibalize old doll and newborn-size clothes)
I like to keep an eye out for doll sized pieces on human clothing! Sometimes that’s where I find nicer/novelty fabrics in items from the thrift store, and an adult sized article of clothing is enough to make one, sometimes two doll pieces. Narrow belts from the thrift store can also come in handy for finding small enough buckles for mid size doll belts too.
I mostly shop for doll clothes, patterns and fabric at Hobby Lobby and Joanns. I have a lot of fabric that is unused and perfect for doll clothing! I have a hard time finding enough time to sew as much as I would like!
I find mini buttons at Joann fabrics in there craft buttons. Flower snapped cards with 5 to 6 different colors each.
I often shop for fabrics for doll clothing at thrift stores like Goodwill. Recycling vintage fabrics into doll clothing is fun.
“I have the hardest time finding doll sized zippers! And cute doll sized buttons.
I shop for my doll clothes in my scrapes and stash. I also check out remanents at any store. I have many buttons, ribbons, etc from years of sewing.
I shop for doll sewing supplies at Joann Fabrics. I have the hardest time finding zippers and buttons doll sized.
I am disabled and mostly homebound so I can only shop for doll supplies online. It’s very frustrating. I have the hardest time finding fabric in cuts of less than a yard, and then when I do they make you pay a large premium for the half yard, I guess hoping you will order a yard instead. That’s wasteful! One online supplier I love is Fields Fabrics’ ultra suede and leather. They let you order as little as 1/8th. yard, which is enough for lots of shoes, boots, belts, bags and even vests and skits for dolls!
I shop for doll fabrics and notions every time I go into any store. You’d be surprised what you can find in stores like K-Mart, Dollar Tree, Tuesday Morning, Big Lots, etc!
I find most of my fabrics at Joanns and at local quilt shops. Sometimes I save my kids’ outgrown clothes for the knits and prints, and I have found some great knits shopping the kids section at the thrift store.
I found zippers at zipper that doll, and thin Velcro from an Etsy seller.
I have the hardest time finding tiny buttons for doll clothes. Some of the ones available for scrapbooking are fine, but lots of those look—I don’t know—too fake or something…
I have the hardest time finding most items as I live in Australia & there doesn’t seem to be any or much demand for it.
I have bought 6” open ended zippers from
Nancy’s Notions ‘ was very happy with them.
About the only thing I can buy here is 1/4” buttons
I’d love to win this pack as it would be so great to a supply in hand when needed rather than having to wait for OS shipping times!!
Thank you for another Amazing year of 12 days of Christmas! You guys are great!!
I shop for doll zippers at Nancy’s Notions.
I shop for doll clothing supplies at Tuesday Morning, thrift stores, and Hobby Lobby.
Thanks for the contests. I have enjoyed both your questions and the answers given by fellow crafters.
I shop for supplies at Hobby Lobby and JoAnn’s. I have the most trouble trying to find 5" zippers and ribbing to go with the different colors of knit fabric that I purchase. Thanks for doing the 12 Days of Christmas again this year. It was a lot of fun!
I shop for my doll items at Joann’s and HobbyLobbyMichales. I have a hard time finding zippers.
I have been sewing for years, so fabric is never in any shortage. Also upcycle and recycle. Notions have to be ordered online and usually out of country (live in Canada); hard to do as limited to places that ship universal also.
I shop for my doll notions at Joan’s, Michales, and hobby lobby. I have the hardest time finding tiny zippers.
I have the hardest time finding in scale ribbing.
Bing.com. Great search engine!
I have the hardest time finding patterns for matching doll clothes with toddler clothes sizes.
I shop for supplies and sewing items at Hobby Lobby and Joann Fabrics
I have the hardest time finding small print fabrics and small zippers, buttons, etc.
I shop for doll clothing supplies online, Hobby Lobby and Joann’s. I also like to shop our local thrift stores for clothing or fabric remnants that can be used to make 18" doll clothing.
I have the hardest time finding nothing and need to get cracking’ and use up what I have!
I have the hardest time finding small buttons in large enough quantities.
I buy most items at Joann and Hobby Lobby with coupons. I look for zippers on line. I think the hardest items to find are narrow lace trims. And I can’t find cotton shoe laces for Wellie Wisher size doll shoes. The synthetic shoe laces don’t stay tied.
I shop for doll size supplies at Home Sew.
I shop for most all sewing supplies at Joanne, Michaels, or hobby lobby.
I shop for most all sewing supplies at Joanne, Michaels, or hobby lobby.
I have the hardest time finding small scale prints appropriate for dolls
I shop for all my sewing supplies at FabricLand. It is the only store here in Langley BC and altough I have repeatedly requested many items for my 18inch doll patterns, they are unable to supply them. So I reuse, redo, or do without! I have an enormous button box and am always on the lookout for tine buttons to use. Velcro is another problem, which is solved by cutting into strips, but it is way too stiff for the finer fabrics really. So this give-a-way would be a delight to win-here’s hoping and thank you for making it available for someone to win
I shop for everything at Joann’s.
I shop for doll shoes from Wish and patterns, material hoop and lock and lace at JoAnns or Hobby Lobby or Home Sew catalog.
I shop for doll buttons, lace and elastic at Hobby Lobby or Joann’s when they are on sale. I have a hard time finding short zippers for the doll clothes. Thanks for the Twelve Days.
I shop for doll supplies and notions online, there just are not any available where I live. I also repurpose baby clothes from garage sales and thrift stores into parts for doll clothes, since the scale is closer to what I am looking for.
I had the hardest time finding the wonderful prints, patterns, lace trim and notions in doll size that I see on your site (American). Vintage fabrics, lace, some trims and recycled baby/children’s items have been discovered at thrift shops, rummage sales or flea markets but are not always found in a timely fashion. I am jotting down site addresses and recommendations from your reader’s comments so I will have a ‘go to’ list when needed. Thanks for opening up this opportunity to share.
I shop at Hobby Lobby or Joann Fabrics if I do on line it would have to be Home Sew or Nancy’s Notions. Thanks for the contest and the chance to win.
“I shop for all doll supplies at Joann’s or 5 and dimes.I have the hardest time finding tiny zippers here.
I shop for 18" doll shor soles at Pixiefairie.
I shop for doll supplies at Home Sew, and my local shops…..Hobby Lobby, JoAnn’s, and Michael’s. I used to buy my velcro on Etsy but my Walmart is now caring a type that I can use.
I shop for notions for my American Girl dolls at a variety of places. I like YKK Zipper (Zipit) shop on etsy. Good variety of zipper colors, types and sizes at fantastic prices. I like Buttons Galore and More for tiny buttons and affordable prices. I also collect used baby clothes and reuse the trims as I can.
I shop for small size buttons for doll knit garments at Jo-Ann’s store. Thanks for this great giveaway.
I shop for 18" doll clothing at Target because it’s cheaper than AG and we don’t have a lot of options where I live.
I shop for sewing supplies at Walmart and Hobby Lobby. I’m new to making doll clothes but have been collecting fabric for years for quilting….so I’m still shopping from my own fabric stash for fabric. :)
I have the hardest time finding the perfect tiny buttons for doll clothes.
I like to shop for doll fabrics and craft materials at Hobby Lobby and Joann Fabrics. Thank you for the great giveaway!

Thrift stores or Joanne’s…
I have the hardest time finding nice weight knit fabric for doll t-shirts. My local fabric stores seem to only carry lightweight fabrics. :(
I have the hardest time finding small prints that will work well for doll clothes.
Besides hitting my huge stash, I use Home Sew whenever I need something I don’t have on hand for doll sewing.
I have the hardest time finding trims such as baby rick rack and middy braid in a variety of colors.
I have the hardest time finding doll size zippers at Joann’s
“I have the hardest time finding Knit Fabric that I like at the local fabric stores
I shop for doll notions on the Home Sew website.
I’ve been lucky enough to shop from my own stash for buttons (been buying them for years when I see cute small ones), and I’ve been happily shopping Etsy for cotton rick-rack. Thank you for posting those doll zipper links, I need to purchase a few. And thank you for all of your generous contests!
I have the hardest time finding wool fabric in the right weight and color for doll clothes.
I find my supplies at Jo anne’s fabric and Michiales and also I have got great finds at yard sales during the summer.
I have the hardest time finding good Velcro. I usually end up buying it from etsy. I also struggle to find small accessories like zippers.
I have the hardest time finding doll size zippers and buttons!
This was a great question to ask. I use shops recommended by Pixie Faire for zippers and other accessories. Walmart also carries a selection of doll-sized buttons in its fabric/notions department. Esty has also been a great source for me. From eBay, a site for mini zippers for a doll and baby clothing: https://www.ebay.com/i/282425552110?chn=ps. Finally, for fabric, I buy baby clothing, blankets etc from the dollar store. Baby clothing will use smaller prints and have small elastic bands and button on them. All other fabrics are from Goodwill and resale shops. They have a great selection of vintage and small print clothing! Happy New Year everyone!
I am relatively new to sewing for dolls but “I shop for general sewing supplies and embellishments at JoAnns and Michaels." They never seem to have exactly what I need. Most recently was looking for small buttons. As others have suggested finding velcro and other fasteners are a problem locally. Surprisingly, Amazon is carrying more notions and general sewing supplies now. Love these comments. Learning a lot of tips and tricks.
“I shop for fabric at Joann’s and a local fabric shop. I have bought many doll clothes patterns from pixiefare and McCall’s.
“I shop for tiny lace trims at on e-bay or Etsy as they are almost impossible to find in Canada at our fabric shops.
“I shop for yarn and material at Walmart. I also like AC Moore and Hobby Lobby.
I DON’T shop for doll sized notions! And maybe that’s my issue with construction! Hmm. Need to think on that.
I do like liiking in the rem. Bin at Joann’s for fabric, though.
I have the hardest time finding a straw hat to make an Anne of Green Gables outfit. In Canada, it is harder to get all the neat things that are available to our U.S. neighbours.
I shop for material at Meijer in the $20 or less marked down clothes section. I can find current looking prints and fabrics at REALLY inexpensive prices when things are on sale, and IF I can find a size !X or 2X pair of say leggins or a sweater with a good small print, I can make a number of doll outfits from one $4 or $5 purchase. Also I shop JoAnn Fabric at Christmas for their earring cards when they are on sale – 3 pair of Christmas themed earrings for not much money. The earrings, removed from the hooks and put onto tiny chains (also found at JoAnns) make really cute necklaces to go with Christmas dresses. The earrings that I found last year were little silver Christmas trees and they were the perfect size! Cost me almost nothing to make!
“I shop for at Pixie Faire, Thimbles and Acorns, and Keeper Dolly Duds. They have cute little accessories that are just the right touch, like tiny belt buckles.
Home Sew is my go-to place for doll sewing supplies. Love their tiny buttons! I found narrow hook and loop tape on Etsy. Since knits can be hard to find, I shop clearance racks of women’s pj’s and buy the largest sizes I can find. A lot of these have the tiny prints that work very well for dolls and often are overlock knits that are soooo much easier to work with than T-shirt knits.
I have the hardest time finding doll scale lace. the smaller “baby Lace” is too stuff and uncooperative. Cotton lace is harder to find but works better in handling and lie on the garment. I’d love to see Pixie Faire find it and offer it for much less than $26.00 per yard.
I mostly buy fabric and doll notions at Joanns. I have a hard time finding velcro that is thin and usually cut to suit my needs. My sister recently gave me my mom’s sewing cabinet and it has some small snaps, buttons, and ribbon from when she made our baby doll and Barbie clothes. What an exciting find!
I have the hardest time finding notions ( zippers, etc) .
I really have enjoyed the comments on these “give aways”. Thanks!
I make doll clothes. I am lucky enough to find a lot of my supplies in my mom’s collection. See, she is a retired doll maker and she has made some BEAUTIFUL doll clothes, all sizes, all types and both genders. I do find at times I need something I cannot find in her stash so I shop at Michaels and Joanns. Also I order a lot of my material and notions on line. I would be so delighted to receive this stash. Thanks In Advance. Roniell
I live in a small town, so I do most of my doll supply shopping when traveling. I always leave room in my suitcase for surprise finds. The hunt is half thefun.
I shop for fabric at quilting departments online and in stores.
I have the hardest time finding tiny fabric prints that are proportioned for doll size—especially historically accurate ones!
I find doll zippers, buttons, buckles at Zipper that Doll and Home Sew. Both provide great service and perfect notions to complete some stylish doll garments. I will be a happy return customer.
I shop for most of my sewing needs (fabric, vinyl, hook and loop tape, thread, snaps, and buttons) at JoAnn’s; however, I get most of my patterns from Pixie Faire. The patterns are written so much better than Simplicity or McCall’s, which I do buy occasionally when they are on sale.
I have the hardest time finding all doll proportioned doll notions. I have purchased some on Pixie Faire and other sites recommended by Pixie Faire, After one of the classes I took through Pixie Faire it was recommended to use fabrics that were already made into children clothes because these clothes had already been coordinated. So I had a GREAT TIME going on a hunt and found some amazing buys. My favorite buys were women’s Cute Headbands at the Dollar Store. One was Pink with Tiny Silver Skulls which made an Adorabke Tee for my Wellie Wisher.
I shop at Joann’s and Hobby Lobby for all my sewing projects.
I shop for Fabric and supplies mostly at Joann’s and I love Pixie Faire!
Small scall buttons, trims and, zippers always making doll clothes impossible. Thanks for doing this contest. I hope I am the winner. I can’t wait to get started on some projects. These little things are really big deal.
Happy New Year everyone.
I am able to fins a few small pints at my Quilting store. However other small items are difficult to find in Canada. Michaels does has a few small items in scrapbooking. Otherwise I have to shop online.
I have a hard time finding Velcro that isn’t too bulky.
I too have ordered doll supplies from Home Sew. Locally I shop Joann Fabrics
And Hobby Lobby. I also use fabrics and notions from my own stash.
I shop for doll fabric and lace at Joanns
I shop for tiny belt buckles at CR’s Crafts.
Hello, I shop for fabrics at Jo-Ann fabric store, they send coupons when registered. I have the hardest time buying small buttons, zippers, buckles and the fingering weight yarn, but I have search for them and found Etsy shops and ebay stores that sell them. Thank you.
I have a hard time finding small buckles and zippers locally, as we only have JoAnn’s, Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, and Wal-Mart. Sounds like a lot, but they don’t carry in doll size things! Our Wal-Mart recently greatly shrunk its fabric dept., so there is even less there. I also have a hard time finding small-scale fabrics, especially knits that aren’t baby prints. I have been known to shop for “fabric” at thrift stores, repurposing clothing for doll things:)
I search for doll supplies everywhere. I’m always on the lookout for small items to use with the dolls. For specific items, JoAnn fabrics and Hobby Lobby are my first choice, followed by Etsy, eBay, and Home Sew.

I shop for doll items at Hobby Lobby and Wall Mart. They closed my favorite store, JoAnns in our area, especially for patterns on sale.
