I shop at Walmart, Michael’s, Ben Franklin, Ebay, Amazon, thrift stores. I have been known to modify patterns to match what I have on hand. I also save tiny buttons and embellishments of my granddaughter’s throw aways. I have gained some insight from reading these comments. Thank you for a great way to connect with other doll clothing enthusiasts. Thank you for being the go to site for us all.

I have the hardest time finding any kind of doll notions. We have a Walmart in our town and that is all. I’m handicapped so I don’t get out of town very much. I am delighted to see where other people found doll notions on line. This opens up a new world for me.

I shop mainly at Joanns (a mile from my home} and privately owned fabri/quilt stores and Michaels. I also order from Home Sew, Nancy’s Notions and Amazon.for things like small buttons, bows, lace etc. I have found some nice small prints at Joanns and I also keep an eye out for fat quarters with small prints….they are great for making pant and top outfits. Love making AG Doll clothes to surprise little girls and I also donate sets of AG Doll clothes to several Silent Auctions. I was very excited when I discovered Pixie Faire – love the variety of patterns!

I am always watching for “tiny buys” where ever I am. I have even found some things when shopping for groceries. Some of my treasures are taken from baby and children’s clothes, tiny trims and buttons. Love what’s going on at Pixiefaire, kind of partial to the shoes and boot patterns, and I have purchased from the Home Sew catalog, and have purchased from zipper that doll. Both are great sources for miniature sewing supplies. I have always had a passion for sewing, knitting, and crocheting tiny doll clothes and accessories. The tinier the better! Thanks for the contest!

I shop for all things small at several places: Nancy’s Notions has buttons plus Doll Essential Notions Starter pack, 6" separating zippers, plus much more. Etsy sellers offer a nice array of needed findings, laces, etc in their shops. I usually check several places when shopping for an item, and always appreciate hearing of new places to shop. I buy most of my supplies at in the beading & scrapbooking areas of the large fabric stores &/or craft stores. And I hunt thrift stores for sweater knits and various other fabrics to recycle into doll clothes. I have a hard time finding (Fabric) small scale plaids, especially in light weight wools and (Notions) buckles. I’ve used embroidery floss and fine pearl cotton to make frogs and Chinese knots for closures because anything like that is nearly impossible to find.

I have difficulty finding thin loop and hook tape and end up cutting wider tape in half.which is not a desirable solution. What I do purchase is normally at either Atlantic Fabrics or Fabricville an hour away and the notion selection is geared towards quilters although they both have good fabric selections I try to reuse, recycle and look for ends of bolts and miscuts for bargain prices.

I know there are a number of websites to order stuff, but I usually need something Now and don’t want to wait for a delivery. One thing I do is buy baby/kid clothes and jewelry at thrift stores or garage sales. Even if the fabric is not the best I’ll buy it for buttons or lace or zippers. Plus those outfits have cute small prints which is also not so easy to find. This had been a lot of fun! Thanks to all who worked on this contest!

I have the hardest time finding scrap material and 18 inch doll size anything! You would think living in a large capital city I’d be able to find stuff to use for sewing or crafting, but I’m guessing Canada is not as popular with some items that are easily found in the US. I also find it hard to find anything for sewing/crafting in the few thrift shops located here. With a severely limited income I can’t always buy straight off the shelf, and the craft stores here are very high in prices.

I have shopped for doll-sized notions at HomeSew for many years. My mom used to order from them, so I’ve been lucky enough to know about the store since I was in high school over 25 years ago. (they’re also great for ordering bulk elastic, etc. for people-sized clothing) However, it is still difficult to find narrower laces, buttons, buckles, etc. in much variety. It’s a matter of always having your eyes open and purchasing things when you find them, because you don’t know if it will still be in stock later. (at most places anyway!)

I shop for tiny buttons…from my mother’s (and grandmother’s) button boxes. They both sewed for dolls, and back in the day children’s clothing was made from woven fabric & fastened by buttons. I have many RTW clothing items from my early childhood and they used these small buttons and snaps.
This doesn’t help anyone but me. However, vintage & thrifted items can provide these little treasures and other embellishments if you look at them with a creative eye!
