My favourite sewing tip is to go into my sewing room and listen to music. It relaxes me so that I can sew for hours.
Always wanting to learn how to use my machines better. My dealer is about a hour away. Guess I should be checking out You Tube.
My favorite sewing trick is to cut all the pattern pieces 1st, then gather all materials needed b4 I begin sewing.
My favorite sewing trick is to cut all the pattern pieces 1st, then gather all materials needed b4 I begin sewing.
I find it easiest to cut pattern pieces, have thread, trims etc along with the pattern in a Dollar Store container so everything is together. It makes sewing so much easier to have everything ready to go.
I hem pants for little people before I sew the seams.
When sewing small pieces that require top stitching (like doll jeans) I first trace the pattern piece onto the fabric. Then, before cutting out the piece I do the top stitching. It’s much easier than trying to be precise on a tiny piece of fabric.
My favorite sewing tip is to have everything cut out and prepped before you begin your project.
My favorite tip is to be sure you print pdf patterns at 100%.
I like to use painters blue tape to hold trim and zippers and things in place instead of pins or bulky clips . And also to read the pattern first before you cut anything out and especially the type of fabric to use
My favourite sewing tip or trick is to use a rolled hem on my doll clothes. It’s much neater and easier than hemming twice! Thank you!
My favorite tip is to use Frixion pens to trace the pattern. Then when you iron the piece the lines disappear leaving a nice, neat cut out pattern piece.
My favorite tip is to buy several plastic shoe boxes from the Dollar Store, then I start cutting several different patterns. For example, if I’m sewing a top, I will have all the pieces, including any trim, elastic, thread, Velcro and pattern & instructions all in the shoe box. I can have several top in different fabrics all cut out and sew them together like an assembly line. Everything is all in one place, I don’t have to hunt for things. Plus they look nice and neat on my bookshelves. When I feel like sewing, I just grab a shoebox and everything I need is right there, not wasting valuable sewing time looking for things.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is using pinking shears to save time cutting notches in curved seams.
“Err on the side of a bit larger and make modifications from that pattern”
My favourite sewing tip is “don’t drink and sew”!!
My favourite sewing tip or trick is the zipper bag trick, where you sandwich the zip between two layers of fabric.
My favorite sewing tip is read the directions first
My favorite sewing tip is using the double sided sewing tape for sewing zippers and closing the back side of dresses/tops before installing Velcro or other fasteners.
My favorite tip or trick is, well I have two, to regular printer paper for my patters whenever possible which makes pinning less necessary and to use the smallest rotary cutter blade to cut out the pattern. I use a tiny18 mm cutter one that goes around the little neck and arm curves so much easier.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is . . . pre-read the pattern and understand how the pieces go together as you cut them out. Take your time and enjoy the journey.
My favorite sewing tip is to baste a knit sleeve. Center and stitch for easy no pucker curve.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to use my edgestitching foot wherever possible on the doll clothes. It makes for very even topstitching around necklines, aprons, skirt waistbands, etc.
My favorite sewing tip is to use old commercial patterns under fine material to start or finish a seam, and then, of course, pull it off.
My favorite tip is to keep the Sewers Aid close … just in case!!! FIESTA
I like to use washable Crayola markers for marking.
My favorite tip or trick is to take your time and always press your seams.
My favorite sewing tip is to use a new needle on my machine. It can make all the difference!
My favorite sewing tip or trick is read thru all of the instructions before starting the project.
My favorite tip is to always make a practice “run” It is equivalent to making a muslin one.
My favorite tip is to keep a sheet of aluminum foil in the sewing room, so I always have it there when I want to sharpen my scissors.
I have learned many tips reading these posts. One I learned that really helped was using wax paper on difficult/stretchy material.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to enjoy what you’re making! It may not be perfect but it’s still comes from the heart.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to recycle clothes to make the doll clothes. Either the smaller prints or fancy fabric found at garage sales or thrift stores.
Read all the pattern direction before you start.
I agree with all of the above, but my favorite is to save the slivers when my bars of soap are almost completely used up. I’ve tried all manner of marking tools and keep going back to plain old white soap for the sharpest line with no worries of staining the fabric. It can be rubbed on needles to make hand sewing easier as well.
My favorite sewing tip is to use my saved short slim pins that companies use on long sleeved men’s shirts that are sold in clear bags. I use these little pins when attaching sleeves, collars, or skirts to my American Girl doll clothes!
My favorite sewing tip is to pin, pin, pin. It helps to make perfect seams.
My favorite sewing trip is to hand base set in sleeves before sewing. I find there is less room for error then when just pinning especially around the easement at the top of the shoulder.
My favorite tip is to always use quality thread and needles.
My tip is one I learned this year when I bought some Velcro the seller let me in on a tip that she uses for sewing it in doll clothes and that is to use some wash-a-way wonder tape. It hold it without pins and when you are done you just wash the item and it is gone, so much easier on your hands sewing it on the machine. Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!
My favorite sewing tip is to read through the entire pattern at least once before getting started so you don’t end up with a surprise.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is using blue or green painters tape to keep my material straight on the sewing machine.
I use Superior Threads poly cones of 60-wt “bottom line” in light, medium and dark gray. It is very strong and keeps the bobbin from running out quickly. The seams are not bulky. Only a few projects will need a different color or weight.
My favorite sewing tip is to prepare my sewing machine/serger or craft project, for the next step, for the next day. That way I know what I’m working on right away and don’t have to figure it out.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to layout all the pattern pieces very carefully prior to cutting the fabric.
My favorite sewing tip is to follow instructions and complete the project correctly. Don’t take shortcuts . But most of all ENJOY and HAVE FUN sewing!
My favorite sewing tip is to press as you sew. It will make a big difference in your finished project.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to use metric when measuring small dolls and making patterns. Small numbers no fractions.
My favorite sewing tip is to cut out a matching doll outfit when I cut out an outfit for my daughter. Then I sew them at the same time.
When inspiration hits, but I don’t have time to make the item right away, I put the fabric, trim, buttons, etc. in a two gallon zip lock bag. I put a note in the bag listing the pattern I want to use and any details I don’t want to forget. Then everything’s ready when I am!
Favorite sewing tip is copy your patterns and mount on posterboard (coloured for each pattern) and label keep your original pattern intact for future reference. Cardboard replaces need for pins and allows multiple cut outs. Store each in manilla envelope with picture of pattern on outside.
My favorite sewing tip is to use a glue stick to hold a button in place while attaching it.
My favorite sewing tip is to write down any tips I find helpful in a notebook so I may easily look it up later.
My favorite tip is if you need to rip something out, always do it before you walk away. That way when you sit down to start sewing again you are not sitting down to a problem to fix.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to use interfacing as a backing for commercial patterns. It makes a big difference when using patterns to have them be more stable for multiple use. I iron this interfacing to the back of the patterns sheets. It’s a sturdy fix for home sewing.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is…asking Mom for help, she’s a more experience sewing and has more patience than me when mistakes happen.
My favorite trick is I make my patterns pieces on stencel it runs through my printer and all the markings are there with name of the pieces and they last forever.
ENJOY!!!
I like to use vellum paper to print patterns. It is sturdier than tracing paper and can be purchased in 8.5″ × 11″ size. I have never had any problems using a laser printer. I also like to use Scott Shop Original blue towels to check pattern fit. It is flexible to fit around a doll’s body, creases easily and can be sewn like fabric.
My favorite Sewing tip is to set up my ironing board at the same time I set up my sewing machine. That way I can move from one to the other with very little delay.
My favorite tip is to use existing clothing to make “miniatures”. Great way to upcycle favorite clothing for a child’s favorite doll.
“My favorite sewing tip or trick is…" using an extra piece of fabric as a sewing ‘spider’ when chain stitching so I can sew all the way to the edge of each piece.
My favorite tip is to use a glue stick or wonder tape when basting hems.
My favorite sewing tip is to copy my favorite patterns because otherwise I wear them out.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to use Dollar Tree shower curtains to trace patterns on to. They are reusable and you can see where the patterns on the fabric will be on the pieces.
My favorite sewing tip is to keep a coffee filter next to your sewing machine. Tear a small piece to start sewing the seam on knits. It works like a charm to keep the material from being pulled into the feed dog. The filter then can just be torn loose from the seam. So simple but so affective.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is using wax paper on material that doesn’t sew nicely!
It is ok to write on your pattern. It helps me to make notes as I read the directions. PS….. Do. It in pencil!
My favorite sewing tip would be to double check that you are sewing the correct pieces together and in the correct direction. 😮
Use a foot for quarter inch seams, and press your seams.
My favorite sewing tip ls to press and then to press again.
Have one pair of scissors designated for only fabric/thread and keep them tucked away from husband, kids, general use . . . starting out with clean cuts makes any project more enjoyable.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to hold a small piece of white paper up behind the needle when threading it. It makes seeing the “eye” so much easier!!
My favorite sewing tip is ironing! Simple, but important.
I use thin clear vinyl when tracing a pattern I will use over again.
My favorite sewing tip is just copy an extra set of pattern pieces and keep original just in case you lose any of the parts….
My favorite tip is using the “hump jumper” for sewing bulky areas and especially when top stitching a jacket zipper. I was amazed when I found this little thing!
I like to use strips of water soluble tape or glue stick to turn up narrow hems on knits or to attach trims to fabric before I sew.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to look & read the instructions several times before beginning any cutting of fabric so I understand what I have to do. I’m a visual learner & I better understand with those pictures.
My tips are to use very good, sharp scissors to cut the pattern out and to press seams as you go.
My favorite sewing trick is to use the round coffee filters under my fabric when I begin sewing, to keep it from getting caught in the feed dog I also use the filters under small pieces where it’s hard to hold on to the fabric. For example when I’m sewing long evening gloves made from performance fabric. I can move the filter around rather than trying to hold on to and move the tiny pattern pieces.
My favorite sewing tip is to make something you like to make, have plenty of bobbins filled and play golden oldies.
My favorite tip is to read through all the directions first, so I know exactly what I am doing and what I need.
That you should spend more time using your iron than your sewing machine. And that nearly all construction can be done with either black or white thread and only topstitching needs to begin to worry about matching the fabric.
The time you taking pin you project with lots of pins (the more the merrier), the faster, and cleaner the actual sewing will be.
My favorite sewing trick is to look outside of the sewing room for tools. For example, I use letter size envelopes to store the pattern pieces for my doll clothes. This allows me to separate the smaller pieces and find what I need easier.
The trick that helps me most is to keep my sewing room organized with a place for everything and everything in it’s place. That way when I need something I know exactly where to find it and I don’t waste time looking for it or money buying duplicates of the same thing.
My favourite sewing tip is to press the seams, it saves me so much time.
My favorite spewing tip is cutting three or four at a time so you have one for you one for a gift one for charity and one to sell.
My favorite tip is change your needle often.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is using the a wide running stitch in 2 rows to do a gather make things so easy for skirts.
My favorite sewing tip is to zig zag over kite string to make gathering a small skirt easier.
Fine small pins work best when you’re preparing to sew small doll clothes pieces.
My favorite sewing tip is to press your seams.
My favorite sewing tips are to read the directions before beginning the project, baste when necessary, and press as you sew.
Pressing after sewing a seam goes miles towards making garments look less handmade and more professional!
“My favorite sewing tip or trick is…" using two sided tape to apply binding to blankets
Cut two one for you one for charity
