Friends and family ask me to “fix or sew a seam or hem” or can you help me by sewing this. I don’t refuse, but it drives me crazy that there is not a “home” course in middle or high schools that teach basic skills including sewing a hem or a button, and fixing a seam!

I have four beautiful granddaughters, all of whom own at least two 18" dolls. Thankfully they are sisters and share their things. Their Memėre got them the dolls and Nanna, that’s me, knows how to knit, crochet, and sew. I would love to be able to make them at least one of everything you have to offer in the way of patterns.     Truly my biggest sewing/knitting challenge is time. And any of us who work outside the home or are caregivers have this problem. I did manage to get everything finished for Christmas, but by the skin of my teeth! Other than that- sometimes my big fingers make working with small patterns difficult.     My biggest challenge is finding a quality piece of knit fabric that is a good weight to work with and has a demure enough print to look good on a doll. Lots of great patterns for knit fabrics but a very limited selection. I like to shop for fabrics at the store and not online, I’m a touch, see and feel shopper of fabric. Happy New Year 🎊

    I didn’t start sewing until I was in my late 60’s and I only sew for my dolls. Sewing “small” is very challenging and I often have a hard time understanding how pieces go together. Patterns with detailed instructions and lots of photos are the best!
