Get To Know Renee (In Her Own Words)

"Inspiration is everywhere! I am a great fan of historical dramas as well as history and fashion itself, and so much of what I see becomes food for creative thought. I taught myself to sew soon after my daughter was born, as I wanted to dress her up in slightly old fashioned finery. It wasn't long before I was adapting patterns. Before long, her dolls needed fancy things! Her cache of Dress Up costumes was a favorite of her friends, as well. As the years went by there was less call for mom-made things and the dolls were set aside.
One day I was musing how much I missed sewing for dolls and little girl whimsies. I allowed my inner child to have rein and ordered a doll just for myself and a new sewing machine. After selling my outfits online, I began to receive frequent requests for my patterns. So, another road opened before me. I was able to harness my naturally artistic nature and pastimes in art, history, writing, photography, Photoshop, and fashion into a new source of fun. I simply adore designing and find it hard Not to be mentally working out new fashions in my head all the time.
The thing that really makes my heart sing is when I receive notes from moms and grandmas telling me how thrilled their little ones are with their new doll outfits, made by loving hands. The magic of childhood stays alive in all of us, it's just a matter of finding it. Fortunately, the doll collecting/crafting community is such a full and pleasant place to find like-minded friends! Pixie Faire is a nest of creativity that continues to evolve and finds new ways to inspire. I am very excited to be a part of it."
Inquiring Minds Want To Know:
Q: What's your favorite food?
Oh wow, I love to cook various cuisines but honestly, the simplest is sometimes the best. Anything with strawberries and cream comes to mind (alone or in a smoothie, ice cream, topped on waffles or angel food cake)! When I'm lucky enough to have something fresh from the garden, oh that's the tops, no matter the bounty.
Q: Coffee or tea?
If it can't be Dr. Pepper, then tea. I grew up loving iced tea all year round, but treasure a nice cup of hot black or herbal tea! Nothing will ever smell better than coffee beans, though!
Q: What inspired your brand name?
The name Dollhouse Designs was inspired by the darling tale of "Two Bad Mice" by Beatrix Potter. It is the story of two dolls named Lucinda and Jane, fetchingly illustrated by Miss Potter. The best part was that the dollhouse in the story uncannily resembled my daughter's large 2-story Barbie house, making it extra fanciful to read. Thus, my designs are intended for the inhabitants of dollhouses, as they were when I sewed for her dolls!
Q: What’s your favorite book or TV show?
I'm a thorough life-long book-nut. History and archaeology have always been my favorite, but I also love historical fiction and the occasional mystery and fiction, although I listen to audiobooks now rather than read physical books. Of course, you might guess that my favorite TV & movie content is hands-down, period dramas! I've been hooked since seeing my first Masterpiece Theatre productions in childhood! #1 fave miniseries are Pride & Prejudice 95, Poldark (the 70s & 2000s), Outlander, all the associated books!
Q: What's your dream vacation?
Aside from Walt Disney World, then it is untold weeks to drive all over the United Kingdom and explore at leisure. Sigh :)
Q: Do you collect anything special (other than dolls, of course!)?
I adore photography and genealogy so much, that I have some antique photographs and albums from unknown people in addition to my own family's. I also have a beloved collection of books.

My favorites are the 1850’s Promenade and Spring Gathering. Love them!
I think the 1950’s Promenade Dress was one of my favorites. I love that it’s a historical dress, but can also be a beautiful modern special occasion dress. It was definitely a lot of work, but I’d love to do another one sometime.
I love Dollhouse Designs! I have tested some of the patterns, and some of my best reviews have come from doll clothing made from Renee’s patterns. Keep up the good work! Promenade is my favorite, I think.
I love the 1850 spring gathering dress. Perfect for Kirsten, Marie Grace and Cecile.
My favorite Dollhouse Designs pattern is the “To The Ball” ballgown pattern. It is perfect for creating dresses for 18-inch dolls that feel like a magical princess.
