Get to know Karen Sherman (in her own words): "Designing came to me quite by accident. I have sewn for years and worked many years at a Bernina store. I was also teaching painting classes and designing and selling patterns at decorative painting conventions. My granddaughter was doing competitive cheer and she was also into American Girl dolls. She and her teammates wanted doll outfits to match their uniforms, so that became my new job. Keeping up with all the girls and the uniform business kept me busy for a couple of years. One day while she was with me, we discovered the Pixie Faire site. I was so excited to see all of the wonderful designs and the quality of what we saw. I submitted a design and was accepted. It has been a great journey and I have and am continuing to learn all the time. It has been a pleasure to design for Pixie Faire and the great staff. I love sewing for dolls!"

Inquiring Minds Want To Know...
Q: What's your favorite food?
Karen: As far as isolating what my favorite food is, that is not easy. Guess you could say that I am a steak girl. If given my choice of anything on the menu, I would probably choose steak. However, I am easy to please and like most things.
Q: What's your favorite tv show or movie?
Karen: Love some of the old dance movies. Always watch Dancing with the Stars. I grew up taking tap dancing. My mom and I would strike out once a week to a little town about 10 miles from home so I could take dance lessons. We did that for years, so it is kinda in my blood.
Q: Coffee or Tea??
Karen: I prefer coffee. Drink it every morning, love iced tea too.
Q: Where's your favorite place to shop?
Karen: Shopping is a fun thing that my girls and I do all the time. I have a daughter, two granddaughters and a great-granddaughter. The shopping bug has bitten all of us. My son and grandson, no so much. Love a great fabric store for sure.
Q: What inspired your brand name?
Karen: As far as what inspired my brand name, I’m not sure. Was looking for something cute and different to use as my name. I think the name was just a God thing. It just hit me one day and I guess it seemed like that was it. I will never forget when I had a booth at Quilt Market in Houston, people came by saying that they could not imagine what Jelly Bean Soup was when the booths were listed at the show. They had to come and see. That was fun!
Q: What is your dream vacation?
Karen: My dream vacation would be to go to Maine in the fall. Would love to see the trees turning and visit some of the vintage shops.
We'd love to hear from you. Leave a comment and tell us - which look is best! And be sure to thank Karen for giving away such a cute outfit!
Thanks, everyone!

Both outfits are very cute, but I like the mall rat outfit the best.
I vote for 80’s girls. It reminds me of my girls when they were little. I even made them little outfits very similiar to this. Thanks!
I like Mall rat.
I vote for the Mall Rat. The pink sweater really makes the dress pop!
Great looks to remember the old days! Thanks for offering them to us.
I looks great on The 80’s look is so trendy. I love the lacey leggins also. Thank you Karen for another super cute outfit.
like them both, but why cover up the beautiful dress so i vote for the 80’s
I like the mall rat best. Mostly because I looked at the 80’s girl and she looked freezing cold. With bad weather this week, I chose the fuzzy warm sweater look. Tomorrow’s weather listed here: (Brrrr!)
Wednesday:
High: 0°F; Low: 8°F - Snow showers, extremely cold, drifting, Wind chills -20 to -35 below zero (-40 along and south of I-94). Chance of precip.: 90%
Love them both!
My vote definitely goes to ’80’s Girl.
Love the Mall Rat! Thanks
I love the 80’s look. I like the mix and match idea on this pattern. Thanks DiAnne.
I love both the looks, but I voted for the 80’s girl.
Both very cute! However, I think I like the mall rat best.
Both very cute! However, I think I like the mall rat best.

Gaush!
Mall rat is “totally” it!
Thank you for the great outfits, the ongoing highlight of the designers, and Pixie Faire!
I so love that I belong to this community.
Thanks for the opportunity. The blue shoes are cute, but it can’t compete with the boots and a sweater. Us knitters love those sweaters, even if they are sewn. Have a great new year!
I like the Mall Rat outfit, the boots are too cute.
Both are so cute. The dress can be mix and matched with so many neat fabrics.
I like them both but love the Mall Rat!
I love the 80s look. My fav food is a nice large green salad with fresh ground ginger and fresh squeezed orange juice dressing.
I love them both, but my fave is Mall Rat.
I like the miss and match.
Thanks
80s Girl!
I love the mall rat. the pink cardigan really sets it off! Karen, thanks for a really cute look!
I like mall rat. My dream vacation would be Marthas Vineyard or an Alaskan cruise
I like the Mall Rat best with the colorful jacket.
I love the 80’s Girl look. It reminds me of my daughter when she was growing up during that era.
Love the mall rat out fit. Must get the sweater pattern!! Thanks!
I love the Hello Kitty lunch box, leggins & sneakers, but the Mall Rat gets my vote. The Sweater, boots and tote bag really make the outfit!
Thank you, Karen. My favorite is 80s girl.
80’s girl looks just like my daughter in the 80’s.
I love the 80’s girl
I love the Mall Rat outfit!!
I love the Jennifer and Kate drop-waist party dress. It’s one of my “go-to” patterns. I’ve made it several times, and it never disappoints. The Halloween print with black ruffled netting was a favorite. I find the pattern very easy, and in no time I have a finished product. Thanks so much for sharing your inspiration, Karen.
I like the pink cardigan and the boots but I probably would add the lace leggings to that outfit for a young lady out shopping. Cute outfit either way
I like the mall rat look!
I love the pop of color of the Mall Rat outfit!!!
Thank you, Karen! Cute outfit! I voted for the Mall Rat.
The mall rat with the cardigan just looks adorable.
Love this, thanks So much for the design & chance to win! I vote for the Mall Rat outfit. 💕
Again, two greatvout fits. How do you pick? The outfit i’m Leaning to iOS based solely on the fact that I think it looks more real like a miniature human is wearing it, instead of a really great outfit on a doll. But it is really a close call but the red sweater give the outfit that pop of color. Love the side ponytail. Soo hard to choose!! Both are winners!!
I Love the “Mall Rat” beautiful color combination!
The Mall Rat, please. The cardi goes great with the dress.
Love the pop of color with the sweater on Mall Rat.
Absolutely adorable, I love both of them so much. I pick Mall Rat, I have a thing for sweaters.
Thank you Karen.
My vote is for the 80s one!
Both cute and different, mall rat looks more put together
They both look wonderful, but I have to pick the mall rat… Maybe because she looks a bit more traditional… Thanks for the wonderful pattern.
I was born in 80’s and am kinda glad I didn’t have to wear the fashions for long. I’m impressed you made this look so cute! I love the color pop of the sweater look.
I love the “80’s Girl” the best. I’ve made this dress and love the way it looks with the lacy leggings.
Although I find the title “Mall Rat” unappetizing, I think the fuchsia sweater makes the outfit; love black and white, but it needs a pop of color.
I love love love the Mall Rat. I love the style and fabric and colors!!
I love the Mall Rat outfit best! I think the sweater makes it “pop”.
They are both so adorable. I guess if I had to choose it would be the Mall Rat.
Thank you Dianne for such a great office! I like Mall Rat because I love the sweater and boot look!
Jenni
Both looks are darling, Karen, especially like the lace leggings as they could go with so many outfits. I think the Mall Rat is more striking because of the contrast of the fuschia slouch cardigan and shopping bag with the black and white dress. Just love black and white and fuschia together. Thanks for another great pattern!
I like them both but probably the Mall Rat best. Thank you Karen. I was a kid tap dancer too.
I vote for the mall rat.
Cool outfit!
I like the mall rat because the cardigan really adds a lot to the outfit. It makes it look classy.
What a cute way to use my scraps!!!
Mall rat
I vote for the Mall Gal. The outfit and accessories match well. A great pattern to use up “charm” quilting square bundles I have in my stash! Thank you!
I LOVE the Mall Rat outfit more!
I absolutely LOVE Jelly Bean Soup patterns. They are my go to patterns when I am stuck on what to make. Thanks for another cute design!!!
I like both looks but prefer the Mall Rat so it got my vote this week. Thanks Karen for a chance to win both of these adorable outfits. I love them.
I voted for the 80’s girl! Love those cute lace leggings—they really help to show off the dress itself. What a great pattern. Thanks for such a great giveaway, Karen.
Both are super cute. My fav is Mall Rat. Thanks for the giveaway.
I voted the Mall Rat because there was no choice to vote Both. I’m wondering if this dress could be made with Jelly Roll fabric. I hope to see this in the WW size.
I voted for Mall Rat. I love the magenta sweater.
Thank you so much for your generosity! While I love them both, the mall rat is my choice. I love the contrast of the raspberry cardigan with the black and white.
This was a hard one. Both looks are so cute. But I lean towards the 80s look just a little more. I want to try this outfit in red/white, blue/white and yellow/white.
Love these patterns!
They are both just so cute! It’s so hard to choose!I guess I’ll go with 80’s girl.
I love the 80s girl!

Thank you Karen for such cute outfits. I had such a hard decision to make, because I really like both of them. But finally decided on the Mall Rat. The reason was because of the accessories.
