Boy Dolls: An Overview
For years doll fans were making their own boy dolls by replacing the wigs on their American Girl® dolls, always wondering why they couldn’t just purchase a boy doll to complete their collection. A few years back, boy dolls started to become more popular as manufacturers such as American Girl® and Our Generation® released this new category of doll. If you have ever wondered, “What are all the different types of boy dolls out there?” “Who makes them and where can I buy them?” or “How do they compare to the girl dolls?” hopefully this article will answer those questions.
Below is an overview of the most popular boy dolls in the 16-inch to 18-inch category. Some brands offer more extensive collections of boy dolls which cannot be featured in their entirety here, so we have chosen our favorites to show here.

Upcycle your old jeans to make your doll's wardrobe feel even more authentic, or use your favorite denim fabric to make this awesome wardrobe staple.
Most boy dolls are made by manufacturers by simply changing the face mold and hair of a doll, without any change to the size and shape of the doll body. For this reason, most boy dolls will be the same size as any girl doll from the same brand.
Get the pattern: Here an American Girl® Girl and Boy Doll are both shown wearing the Mercury Flightsuit from the pattern made by Forget Me Not Designs. As you can see by this example, the boy doll and girl doll have the same size and shape body and can wear the same size clothing.
Some designs look great on both boy and girl dolls, like many uniforms and sports clothing. Other patterns have been designed specifically for boy dolls to get that classic masculine styling and fit.

He’s adorable, I love his little soccer outfit.
Pottery Barn actually had released ‘Henry’ before Parker – he had a grey hoodie, light blue polo shirt and khaki pants, with slightly lighter brown hair than Parker. I am so glad to see this article, to draw some attention to the boys, not just to accompany the girl dolls in a girl’s collection, but for the growing number of boys with dolls as friends.
I think the My siblings/My pal dolls are really cute. They have cute faces
I love the My Pal doll, he looks just like Gaten Matarazzo/ Dustin from Stranger Things!
I love the boy dolls I have two sons. So this would be great for a keep sake for them.
I like Andy. He’s my kind of boy.
love this doll, thank you.
I like them all! I especially like the fact that they come in multiple ethnicities, as that gives the option of matching the doll to the boy when giving one as a gift.
I like all of the AG boy dolls
Dylan would be a great addition to my collection. I currently have only one boy doll, Gabe.
Can’t wait for my order
I have one boy doll -a cheap knock off. I would love any of these dolls but particularly like "black skin "and darker skin dolls. I think the one being offered to win is my favorite though. Thanks for the chance to win it.
I don’t have ANY boy dolls. This would be great for my collection.
I think Andy the my siblings doll is pretty cute, and not just because we share a name! I didn’t know there were so many choices when it came to boy dolls. Great to know!
My grandson wanted a boy doll so he could play with his little sister that is a year younger than he is. It took for ever to find one. When I found one I was so glad that you had boy patterns for both clothes and shoes. Thank you, Pixie Faire.
Boy dolls are so fun! Love the Pixie Faire patterns everyone has designed.
Love them all hope one day to get one of them
I like the American Girl Truly Me #74. He looks like my blonde headed grandsons. I have made lots of your girl patterns, but I don’t have a boy doll, so I haven’t tried any of those.
Every little boy needs a boy doll.
Thanks for the information. I have made a couple of boy dolls by changing wigs but would really enjoy having an authentic boy doll.
I like the Our Generation Gabe doll.
I went to the AG website and I like #74 the best because I like blonde hair. Thanks for keeping us thinking about being creative during this isolation time. I would love to have any boy doll.
All the Boy dolls are cute but I would choose Truly Me 75 because I has theAG dolls
I love them all. They are adorable.
I love all the boy dolls, but love Gotz Dylan and American Girl boy dolls the most.
I like Parker and #75 the best.
I love the My Sibling, My Pal dolls very well made, adorable and the cause that is supported is very worthwhile
Truly Me #75 is my favorite, because he looks like my older son.
I’m liking the truly me #75
I love the gotz boy doll
Andy. I have an Andy that played baseball.
I like MAx the best, or my Anette Himstead boy doll that is anatomically correct that I got when my son was eight. He had to show it to his friends
I would love to win a boy doll instead of having to convert one of my dolls that I didn’t like the hair.
I have a very special child that I would love to gift a boy doll to. Good Luck to all!
I love all the boy dolls!!
I like Truly me #75. He looks good with my other dolls.
Truly Me #75 is my favorite
Truly Me #75 is my favourite. I really like his facial features and posability.
What fun to read all about the boy dolls and outfits; since I have 2 sons, I have had a special interest in boy dolls and have 2 boy dolls of my own and often wondered why there weren’t more boy doll clothes and patterns. Thanks for sharing.
Mary
I really like Max he is really cute. I don’t have any boy dolls yet but I want one
I love them all, but especially Truly Me 75.
We have a My Pal boy(Matty) from the My Sibling company. I love just live his face…they look very real! Also, the company is working hard to get an important message out about autism and I like supporting them.
I have a boy doll that I got from Wal Mart (I named him Billy). He has been very useful in making clothes for my daughter and niece’s dolls. That way I don’t have to look for hers when I need to see if the outfit will fit or not. My youngest daughter insists that my doll is hers. I don’t mind her playing with him.
I like #75 the American Girl (boy!) one. He just looks like a real boy to me.
I really like the doll called Franco as he reminds me of someone I know.
I recently came across Franco. Do like him almost as much as Heidi Ott’s Benjamin.
The, A Girl For All Time, “Max” doll is my favorite! Love those eyes!
Thanks
I like truly me 75 looks like my grandson.
I like truly me 74 looks like my grandson.

I really love Max. So cute. The clothes for the boys are so cute.
I really love Max. So cute. The clothes for the boys are so cute.
I have two favorites the Gotz Paker and the Our Generation Franco!
Having had identical boy twins 40+ years ago, I love the chance to share boy dolls and dad’s clothing from “back then!” with my grand-daughters!
I think I like Logan better than the ones shown. But I don’t have a boy doll so could use one in the house!
I like the Andy doll. He looks like he could be my nephew. He also has a very serene face so I know he is not a trouble maker.
Stephan (Carpatina dolls) – best thing of all is that Stephan has outfit patterns available through Pixie Faire.
I love my Carpatina Dolls “Stephan” best. He is a slim 18" all-vinyl Carpatina doll, with a different mold that the girls. One thing I love about this doll is that Mihaela, of Carpatina dolls, designs beautiful historically accurate outfits (and modern clothing) for her boy dolls, and also offers the patterns for us to purchase to make them yourself. Of the dolls you show, I’m liking best the Gotz Dylan doll! So I’d be delighted if aI won your generous give-away…
I do not have a boy doll. If I were to purchase one, it would #75. They are all cute!
I love my Original Our Gen boy doll Jack. Mine was renamed Eric cause He had dark hair and I already had an Airel doll.
I like Andy. Going by appearance as I’m not familiar with boy dolls.
I really like the American Girl boy dolls but I think all of the dolls you showed are cute.
The My Siblings Boy doll is so cute, I love that he looks like a kid who is looking for adventure, or a little trouble to get into!
Boy dolls are a great idea
Parker – I wish we had Pottery Barn locally.
I haven’t gotten a boy doll yet but would love to add one to my girl doll collection. I want to learn to sew boy clothes as well!
I would have to say “Gabe” with the wavy blonde hair caught my attention first.
I like Truly Me #75 and Franco. I would love to have a boy doll.
MY favorite boy doll is Truly me # 75……..I have many boy dolls and I truly love all of them. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to win one I haven’t got. I love pixie fair too and I have books and books of your patterns and still buying. At 78 I"ll never live long enough to make them.
Truly Me #75; He looks like a real boy and I love the dark brown eyes.
I’ve always wanted a boy doll that had blond hair and blue eyes like my son when he was young. Of the dolls you’ve shown, Truly me #75 and Andy are my favorites. Andy especially looks like a rough and tumble little boy with a cute face. Thanks for the give a way!
I love Franco he is gorgeous and looks very Italian 🤣🤣🤣
Truly Me #77 caught my eye, he is adorable. I really believe they all are special but #77 stands out to me.
I am glad that male dolls are becoming easier to obtain.
I love truly me #75. He Truly reminds me of my grandson. I don’t have a boy doll yet so this would be a great addition to my collection.

i would like a boy doll. My grandson plays with his sister but would like to be a boy.
Love truly me 75! Reminds me of my son when he was younger!
These boy dolls are so cute. Growing up getting a doll was a rare thing. They would always be small and none were boys. Now at 38 and seeing the popularity of boy dolls just amazes me. My daughter has 3 and would love to add to her collection.
Truly Me #75 looks just like my grandson : )
I think Parker is so adorable. So my vote goes to Parker.
I love all the boy dolls but I think my favorite is the Götz doll and My Sibling doll
My granddaughter doesn’t have a boy doll yet. We might have to shop on Amazon!
I love the creativity in these boy doll costumes.
I have been collecting boy patterns for a while. Just waiting for a brother for Molly. We like the Andy doll the best. Please make her dream come true!
I like Ryan made by My Life dolls. He looks just like my oldest son whom I adopted from South Korea 32 years ago. I asked for him for Christmas, and my son bought him for me. He is so cute, and my son thought the doll looked just like himself when he was a little boy. He then understood why I wanted that particular doll. I also like Max from AGAT and the boy dolls from American Girl. Working on adding to all their wardrobes. So much sewing to do for all my boys!
Thank you for this giveaway. My son has Logan, sadly not much has been sewn for him
.
Love that there are boy dolls and wonderful patterns too. I learned how to sew doll clothes from you site and so grateful for it. Thank you
I was surprized there are as many boy dolls as there are. I liked Andy as he had a nice face.
I think A Girl for All Time: Alex is my favorite with those pretty green eyes! Coming in a clost second and almost my favorite – in fact I’m buying him – is My Siblings: Andy. I do love the prize doll however too!
My favorite was A Girl For All Time: Max with his pretty green eyes. Then my next favorite which was almost tied with Max is My Siblings: Andy. He looks like a real boy. But the prize doll is super cute too and would be fun to design for!
I have been making “boy” dolls for decades. It’s nice to see that there legitimate boy dolls being manufactured.
