My favorite holiday tradition is cooking the meal with a little bit of help from everyone. I love getting everybody together in both the kitchen and the diningroom that way we all have ample time to share our lives with each other and catch up with those relatives who live far away.

My favorite tradition is spending time with family at Christmas. We celebrate Christmas Eve for supper with the 12 traditional dishes from the Ukrainian tradition. Then we go to Christmas mass at church as a family to celebrate the birth of Christ.

My favorite holiday tradition is making stollen – a German Christmas bread. Our recipe had been passed down through my father’s family. The recipe makes 7 loaves at a time – a huge batch of dough that everyone helps make and then knead. We look forward to the family fun of making it and then eating it! It’s delicious!

We laugh, talk, make tamales and have a great time. When they go on the stove, we all go home, change and come back to enjoy our food, exchange gifts and generally have a great time.
