A cultural tradition I find interesting iare irsih/Scottish festivals. Love the music. My grandmother was a huge fan and played music at home. I’m happy with the pattern selection but maybe a matching doll/girl pattern for the 4th of July. Thanks!
A favorite cultural tradition I take part in is the making of a wreath with four candles in them. The German tradition is to light one candle on a Saturday. The next Saturday you would light two and so on. A cultural pattern I would like to see are Japanese patterns.
A favorite cultural tradition I take part in or find interesting are the celebrations of Samhain and Yule. A cultural pattern I would like to see offered is more authentic Native American ceremonial dress patterns.
Every New Year’s Eve, my family and I see the New Year in. Traditionally, the first person over the threshold on New Year’s Day (a minute past midnight usually – when everyone has sung Auld Lang Syne and toasted the new year with a wee dram) should be a chimney sweep carrying coal, milk, salt, tea, sugar, coins – all the essentials for a prosperous New Year. We don’t have a chimney sweep so these days it just needs to be someone with dark hair or wearing dark clothes. The cultural pattern I would like to see – a chimney sweep because they traditionally bring good luck.
I don’t really take part in any cultural traditions but have started a few new family traditions. One we do around this time of year is to make cut out sugar cookies and everyone frosts them. We each make a unique gingerbread person. We then sit in front of the fire on a Christmas quilt and enjoy homemade treats and beverages and open presents. The beverages have changed from milk in sippy cups to wine now that my children are grown. No matter who’s house we are at we do this every Christmas Eve.
