A FAVOURITE CULTURAL TRADITION I FIND INTERESTING IS Middle Eastern clothing in ancient style. I recently visited countries in the Middle East and would love to see Palestinian, Jordanian, Israeli, Lebanese and Syrian costumes. Here in Australia there are no patterns for our large middle eastern multicultural communities. I believe that if we begin early with children playing with dolls in many cultural costumes then there just might be more tolerance of “differences” as the act of playing instils joy in our differences. I would love to know how modern Australia would be represented by pattern makers as there appears to only be Olympic sports outfits. I could be wrong, but how do others perceive us Aussies? Thanks for the opportunity to express my passion. BTW I make my own dolls and use these patterns for them.
A FAVORITE CULTURAL TRADITION I TAKE PART IN IS cooking and baking foods from countries of my family’s heritage. A CULTURAL PATTERN I WOULD LIKE TO SEE OFFERED AT PIXIE FAIRE WOULD BE traditional German clothes.
A favorite cultural tradition I take part in is exploring the Danish and Swedish heritage of my parents. Excepting some of the foods – Lutefisk and pickled herring, there is a lot to discover! My mother is currently in possession of her mothers hand woven cultural dress from Sweden (I have actually worn it!) A cultural pattern I would like to see offered at Pixie Faire would be any folk costume from any country. I love seeing different countries costume and am alwasy amazed at how many variations of dress in just one country there can be!
I try to have cultural holidays for my son who was adopted in Mexico including learning how to make tamales and a 3 kings cake for Jan 8. I would like to see more Mexican outfits.
A favorite cultural tradition I take part in Lutefisk Dinners during the winter months. It was tradition we enjoyed going to with my dad, who continued going into his 90’s. But thank goodness for the Swedish meatballs! I’d love to see more patterns for the immigrates from Scandinavia.
