I have the hardest time finding doll size add-ons such as thin, smooth Velcro, buckles, zippers, iron-ons, etc.
I shop for notions at my local fabric store, Fabricana and haven’t branched out much from there yet. I have found that a good place for tiny buttons is Button Button in Vancouver, BC – they have pretty much anything button-wise.
I primarily shop for my doll supplies at Joann’s and Homesew.com. The narrow trim assortments at Homesew have been helpful and affordable.
I shop for all my doll supplies at online stores. Where I live we have no fabric stores unless I drive to other cities.
I shop for patterns and found this web site to have the best, Supplies for constructing these outfits often leads me back to the commuter to find what is needed..
I have the hardest time shopping for small buttons, zippers, and accessories. Sometimes Fabric Land has some but really limited.
I shop for fabric at…honestly? My closet, lol. I love repurposing clothes. Clothes my son has outgrown, stuff that tore or got stained…whatever the case may be. I also use scrap fabric from other projects (like making a party dress for my niece’s doll from the fabric left over from make my son’s dragon costume).
But if I need fabric outright, Hobby Lobby works great because they often discount their fabrics by 40% or more!
I have been blessed with having had generations of “sewers and crafters” before me, that were way ahead of their time, making earrings for Barbie in the 1970"s, and using little beads for buttons and embellishments etc. I live in a rural Alberta and the closest hobby stores are Fabricland and Michaels and, on occasion, I can score a few great items, often in the scrapbooking section. As a former teacher, I have a tendency to see potential purpose in everyday products, so I repurpose a lot of items and I love browsing through Thrift Stores for buried treasure..
I don’t really have a secret place. I go to Joann’s, Hobby Lobby and find things on Amazon.
I have just started getting supplies together to make 18” doll clothes. Have not made any yet.
I shop for most of my 18" doll supplies at Joanns or Wawak.
I have the hardest time finding doll-size prints for 17th and 8th century dolls. So many of the prints on the market are wrong for the period, the drape is not correct or the colors are just plain wrong. I am also always on the hunt for appropriate closures, hooks, etc. that are to scale and are real metal, not plastic. I have even had to make some of my own just to get the right scale!
I shop for notions at Mary Jo’s Cloth Store.
“I shop for doll belt buckles at JoAnn’s. Sometimes I find them in the button department, and sometimes I find them in the jewelry department.
I shop for ALL my doll supplies online and I can eventually find all that I need there. I just turned 79 years old and have become limited in how much time I can spend travelling to and shopping in stores like I use to do. I also find those hard-to-find items easier and quicker than traveling store-to-store. I’ve gotten my shoe supplies from Pixie Faire and Liberty Jane offers advice at times on where to shop online for hard-to-find items (Thank you!). Would love to win this bundle to add to my stock of supplies. Thanks for the opportunity!
I shop for small print fabric at Walmart or Hobby Lobby in the fat quarter section of the craft department
I shop for my doll supplies at Joann fabrics or Hobby Lobby. I have found most of everything that I have needed so far to complete my projects.
I have the hardest time finding doll sized notions. We live in a small town and Joanns is my primary shopping stop for sewing. Thank goodness for Joann’s. I know there are places on line to buy items, but I’m never sure of how to match colors without seeing in person. I.e. Some whites are closer to natural than white
I find a lot of doll sized notions at Joann Fabrics and Michaels. It’s amazing how much they have expanded over the last few years – there are so many petite buttons out there right now!
I have the hardest time finding doll sized separating zippers in a variety of colors, though. That is something I wish was more common!
I have the hardest time shopping for small buttons, zippers, and accessories. So I go to thrift stores, and look for used baby items. All those tiny accessories, and the smaller the size clothes the smaller the accessories!
I love HomeSew for doll size notions. I also find lots of good stuff at estate sales, ladies of an earlier era kept bits of lovely fabric, lace and other trim, their boxes of sewing trinkets are a treasure.
I have the hardest time finding small sized zippers for doll clothes.
I shop for supplies in my mom’’s stash. She finds most of her notions in grab bags at thrift stores.
I shop for embellishments/buckles at Michael’s and JoAnn’s—in their Scrapbooking supplies aisle!!
It is not hard to find small notions to sew dolls clothes because of web sites like the ones we are on. When you do not have to look so hard for the notions it makes it much more enjoyable to sew the doll clothes.
I have the hardest time finding doll sized notions!
I shop for fabric at any store that sells fabric…my favorite way to buy is remnants!
I find doll notions and supplies by adapting what I have already.
I have the hardest time finding Velcro for doll clothes!
I have to agree with most comments here. Finding prints that are small enough to make an outfit for an 18" or smaller doll is quite a challenge.
Not challenging enough to stop me though. I even shop at Thrift shops. Sometimes blouse material will have a smaller print than say an entire dress. A bonus is it’s already been washed previously and is as shrunk as it will ever be after I wash it.
looks like this would be a lot of fun, making doll packages (doll and clothes) for church bazaars.
I have found the best place to find small prints for doll clothes is at Salvation Army, Good Will, rummage sales, Etc. in men’s shirts or women’s shirts.
I have the hardest time finding doll sized notions, like buttons, etc.
“I shop for zippers and buckles at zip it.
I have the hardest time finding small zippers. I also look for small print fabric for the clothes. My usual go-to places are Joann’s, Craft Warehouse, and Hobby Lobby, but I’ve also found great fabric sometimes at thrift stores in the form of used clothing, especially clothing for children.
I keep all kinds of scraps on hand, comes in handy for patches, scarves, ties, ribbons, and I love purchasing the assorted buttons, and I even keep spare buttons off of my own clothes. I have yet to attempt using a doll zipper…I would find that quite challenging.
I have the hardest time finding velcro! Why is so hard to find thin, flexible velcro for doll clothes?
The hardest thing for me to find is small scale coloured Velcro and small scale fancy buckles, zippers, embellishments and shoe components. Internet buying is a last resort for me because the shipping charges become cost prohibitive. Pixie Faire is my go to source as you know what you purchase will be just right for your project, so the extra cost is worth it.
I shop for my doll supplies at hobby lobby, joannes and Michaeals
I have the hardest time finding doll accessories.
I have the hardest time finding doll-scale notions and supplies here in Canada and to order from the US the postage is very expensive to ship to Canada.
I have the hardest time finding what I need in any local stores. Then I go to websites and find what I need only to be discouraged by the amount I need to spend to get reasonable shipping costs, or the amount of product I need to buy (quantity.) Then it takes forever to get it and I go on to another project. I want to have a nice variety of all my needs on hand.
I have the hardest time finding small print that is suitable for sewing doll clothes.
I have the hardest time finding 18" doll-sized notions and supplies. It seems when I do find them, they are more appropriate for Barbie.
I buy zippers & velcro at “zipper that doll” everything else I purchase at fabric stores or upcycle clothing
I have the hardest time finding pretty tiny lace
This collection is wonderful. My only local resource is Joann’s Fabricswhich is rather limited in supplies for 18" doll notions. Whoever wins this will be VERY lucky.
living in a very small town makes it impossible to find tiny items unless you luck out and find an item with buttons at the thrift store which makes them pretty spendy. Appreciate your references would really love this bundle!
I have the hardest time finding doll sized notions such as zippers and trims.
I usually use scraps left over from quilting or making my granddaughters clothes. When I shop for fabric it’s at Joann Fabric and Walmart. Hard to find small enough buttons & trims. I usually cut 7" zippers to get the smaller size I need.
I shop for most of my doll sized notions at a creative reuse store, hobby lobby, and Joann’s.
I shop at Joann’s, Wal-Mart, Amazon, thrift stores, on line, anywhere, including my stash for tiny zippers, buttons, and scraps of material.
“I have the hardest time finding fabrics with small print]” but love the hunt
I shop mostly at Hobby Lobby because it is the closest place to me but It’s hard to find items I need. I have shopped on line sometimes it’s my only choice.
I have the hardest time finding ribbing and buckles! Also doll scale prints, especially for appropriate historic clothing, or beyond the run of the mill. I have purchased zippers from Zipper that Doll.
I have the hardest time finding doll sized buckles, the selection is limited and sometimes the ones I find are for Barbie sized dolls.
“I have the hardest time finding buttons for doll clothes. I looked for a year to find toggle buttons small enough for a sweater I knitted but had to give up and use regular buttons.
I have the hardest time finding tiny iron on decals for doll t-shirts.
I have a hard time finding just the right trim for my doll clothes. I once got my trim at an outlet store, but they have since closed.
I shop for doll-sized notions through searches online. Lately, Pixie Faire is my go-to choice for zippers and shoe bottoms. I have a difficult time finding small print fabrics and small notions. If I see a attractive small patterned fabric at JoAnn’s, I pick it up whether I have a project in mind or not.

I have the hardest time finding really small buttons and snaps
I shop for doll clothing supplies at JoAnn’s & Michael’s as they are about the only places left near me anymore, and I wish they would offer more in the way of tiny trims.
I have the hardest time finding tiny embroidery designs to put on the clothes.
Fantastic! Always looking for the best notions that fit your wonderful patterns!
I have the hardest time finding 1/4" velcro so often end up cutting it in half… It can also be challenging to find trims and buttons in sizes appropriate for a doll.
I find most of my things at garage sales and thrift stores. Thank you for zipper sites. They are hard to find.
Joann’s and Home Sew keep me in notions but I have a hard time finding small prints on fleece. They are huge and that overwhelms doll size sewing.
I hunt for unique fabrics by checking the drapery panels, drapery sheers, and bed dust ruffles at Goodwill. The sheers and dust ruffles often have satiny finishes, narrow pin tucks, or crinkled texture that is delicate and soft enough for dolls. Check out the center layer of the dust ruffle, that goes under the mattress, it’s often a fine white muslin for petticoats, slips, and aprons. Lots and lots of unique yardage for a low price. My all-time favorite find is a milk chocolate brown faux suede curtain panel which is self lined in satin. I’m thinking many, many bomber jackets, boots, and shoes. All this wonderfulness for $2.99!
Thank you for the 12 Days of Christmas. You’ve got me jazzed for making 2018 a banner sewing year!

I have the hardest time finding the accessories for the doll clothes. Zippers, buckles, buttons, Velcro, small print fabrics are all a challenge to find at my Fabricland but I keep looking! I have become better at buttonholes because of this!
I get most of my notions from an inherited stash of goodies. My grandmothers in law both saved buttons and trim thru their lives and just by sheer volume there are tiny sized pieces.
I have the hardest time finding open doll zippers and mini Hogwarts crests to go on doll cloaks.
