My favorite tool is my 1970’s Kenmore sewing machine. It has eight built-in stitches and several interchangeable feet so it is an adaptable and dependable workhorse of a machine. It is so quiet that it never disturbed my children’s sleep when I stayed up late working on their clothing or my daughter’s doll clothes. I like it so much that when I saw another one of the same model at an unbelievable price at a yard sale, it came home with me as a backup or to have different threads or stitch settings ready when working on a big project!

I have been sewing for over 65 years, and appreciate my many tools. They all work together to create wonderful results. My newest favorite is a small cutting mat on one side, but flip it over and it is a small ironing board. The work area is about 15″×20″ and it has a built-in handle on one end. It is so easy to grab it to press seams as you go, especially for quilting or doll clothes. Saves a lot of jumping up and moving to the ironing board and back, and it saves space in my small sewing room!
