My favourite sewing tip is to use outgrown clothing for sewing doll clothes, as long as it’s not worn out or stained. For one thing, it’s free. It also gives you greater variety in fabric choices, without having to spend an arm and a leg. You can make some pretty unique clothing pieces, especially if there is something like an appliqué on the clothing item that you can incorporate into your doll item. My girls love getting doll clothes made out of their favourite clothing items.
I make turning tools out of dowels so I can easily turn items like ties and belts to the right side.
My favorite sewing tip is to use a magnetic strip on my pegboard for my bobbins. I found mine at the hardware store!
My tip is to always press seams open that need to be open. Also when making multiple items of the same pattern, cut them all out and sew each step on each item at the same time, then before you know it….you have several items that are completed!
My favorite sewing tip when sewing elastic onto sleeves or panties is to cut the piece of elastic 2" longer than called for so you have 1" overhang on each end to pull on while stretching the elastic & use a zig zag to stitch in place. Leave the 1" overhang to hang on to & stretch a bit while sewing the sleeve or panty seam, then trim it to 1/4" or whatever your seam width is.
