While I enjoy sewing with cotton fabrics most of the time, I do like a variety of fabrics, colors, and textures, depending on the particular project I’ve selected. Having access to a big variety of fabrics often makes sewing a difficult choice, but it certainly keeps the creative juices flowing. If I’m doing historical projects, I try to stay with the “real” four: cotton, linen, silk, or wool.
My favorite is cotton and flannel but I also love corduroy. I like the ease of working with these fabrics. I also feel they are the most kid friendly for care and wear. What I like the most are the bright colors they come in.

My favorite sewing fabric is 100% cotton because I am mainly a quilter and it is easier to work with than heavier fabrics or blends that do not always hold up as well. This does not mean to say that I do not have a variety of fabrics in my stash and use them in doll clothes making.

My favorite fabric to sew with is used family clothes. They don’t use the clothing anymore and it makes several outfits as long as you work around the stains or warn spots. That’s easy to do with small pattern pieces. It creates a great family conversation and puts smiles on family faces. Also the scarves and t-shirts from the dollar store make nice outfits as well. I used a black rain-coat to make a fireman outfit, and old engineer work clothes to make engineer/mechanic work clothes for the dolls. I use trouser socks that have runs in the foot area to make tights for the dolls. Worn footies make tiny footies for the dolls. it only uses a couple inches from the top,It all looks brand new when they are done.

My favorite fabric to sew with depends on what I’m making. I usually sew for my historical dolls and they get natural fabrics with a lot of silk and satin. They never complain about their clothes, get them dirty, or say the outfit makes them look fat. For myself, unless I’m going to a dress-up event, I make something easy to wash and wear. I do get quality fabrics; it doesn’t make sense to use junk.
