One of the most important thing for me is clear instruction —a separate page of written instructions and picture with instruction, too. I usually print the written instructions and just refer to my computer copy for the pictures if I need to. Saves me paper and ink.
The most important element? Is pictures! Gobs of them for each step. I am a visual learner and it takes “seeing” a step for me! I get all discombobulated with paragraphs of instructions…
The most important/useful feature or element of a pattern is very clear instructions. I also find I benefit from the photos when I’m not quite clear on a written instruction. Most of the Pixie Faire patterns I’ve bought and made have been very easy to follow. Many thanks!
The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern is really good instructions. I appreciate instructions with photo illustrations that are large enough to zoom in on the important part for clarification.
The most important feature in a pattern is the actual pattern paper pieces. If I don’t have that I can’t start. I’m always pleasantly surprised that the pattern fits so well and can count on the dimensions being so accurate. Gives me more confidence as a beginner
To me, the most important feature of a pattern when I make doll clothes are the pictures. A lot of times I need to see what the directions mean because they don’t always make sense. The pictures are a great reference for me.
Clear instruction, and maybe a small video tutorial on a new or difficult technique that you can get access to when you buy the pattern. Knitting Expat Designs does this for her knitting patterns when she makes up a new stitch all she shows is how to do the stitch.
The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern are the instructions.
The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern is the pictures to support the instructions. With patterns my sewing method is “step by step” so if the instructions are a bit confusing, I found the pictures that accommodate the instructions were very helpful. I also love the fact that the patterns come in a pdf file which makes it easy to not only store but you can organize the patterns into separate folders to make it easier when searching for a particular pattern (top, bottom, dress, coat, accessory, etc).
I feel being able to size the pattern to your doll is most important. You don’t want to make the outfit and it doesn’t fit right.
The most important part of the pattern is the concise wording of directions and pics to match. Sometimes there are too many repeated phrases, but overall, it is very well done!
The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern is clear instructions with corresponding pictures. It helps if the fabric being used for demonstration isn’t too busy so you can see seam lines and placement.
The most important element in a pattern is CLARITY of INSTRUCTION. My mother taught me when I was very young to read and re-read a pattern. One can read complicated instructions again & again & still not understand the directions. CLEAR instructions are vital!
The most useful element in a pattern is to clear step-by-step instructions accompanied by good illustrations.
The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern is clear pictures, especially up close of difficult areas. Also easy to understand instructions without leaving out parts of them. I’ve had to improvise in the past when the instructions missed some areas. The fabric stretch is also extremely important, it can make or break an outfit.
The most important element of a pattern clear instructions with photos and accurate measurements.
The most important part of a good pattern is that it is true to its listed size not just stating that it will fit an 18" doll. Printing the actual pattern measurements ON THE PATTERN itself would help me knowing what adjustments I may need to make or which doll to use.
The most important feature to me in patterns is good markings on the actual pattern showing seam lines etc
I like to print summary instructions then if I need something specific I go back to look online. Pictures are important and directional placement of pattern on material.
The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern is easy to understand instructions and pictures for the areas that may be confusing.
The most important part of a pattern is accurate sizing ti fit the age or size of the intended recipient
The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern is photos to support the tricky parts.
It is very important for a pattern to have clear and concise instructions, with photo illustrations at each step of the sewing.

The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern are very clear insructions, with pictures.
The most important part of a pattern is, by consensus of the comments above, easy to follow instructions with pictures and helpful marks for matching pattern pieces together.
The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern is easy to understand instructions and pictures for the areas that may be confusing.

“The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern is Clear/COncise instructions. Pictures are very helpful”
The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern is clear, specific, step-by-step instructions. I can’t begin to recount how many patterns (not Pixie Faire!) have been sketchy and left way too much open to interpretation. Interpretation is great if it’s something freeform, but when I want to make the pattern in the picture, I want to know exactly what to do! Then I need perfectly clear instructions.
Good instructions with good pictures
The most important feature for me is clearly written instructions and photos to go along with them.
The most important feature or element in a pattern is good fit with clear instructions being next. If the sewing is basic, simple instructions are all that are needed but if there are special features to the pattern, more detailed instructions would be appreciated so I don’t have to figure out the best technique to use. This would prevent me from wasting time and materials.
Good Instructions and clear pictures are very important!
The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern is clear instructions with pictures
The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern is pictures and line drawings to help with the assembly
Knowing where to match a print and where the stretch should be
The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern is having clear instructions and the use of good pictures. Fabric choice used by the designers is also very important.
Clear instructions, written out as if everyone is a beginner. No fancy words just basic sewing instructions with pictures.
The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern is clear, concise instructions. And the second is clear photos for difficult areas.
a pattern that fits and is easy for a child to dress and instructions are easy to follow..great for teaching someone else how to sew.

diagrams that show how “trickier” pieces are put together. sometimes a description in words just doesn’t explain it enough – SEEING how the pieces fit together is priceless!
The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern is having the finished measurements communicated plainly. The second most useful thing is to have adequate overlap for closures – zipper openings and button plackets.
The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern is the visual representation. I’m a visual learner so clear pictures are a must.
Instructions and clear pictures are very important!
For me, the most important feature of a pattern is clearly written, detailed instructions.
The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern is Fit and size.
Good pictures! It helps to get a good visual!
The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern is clear instructions.
The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern is including photos, especially of the more intricate or unusual steps. Of course everything in the pattern is important, we have to have the pattern pieces, instructions, fabric suggestions, photos of the finished project. But I need the visual of some steps.
Also it is nice to have the 1 inch scale marked on the pattern pieces to make sure I printed it correctly.
Good pictures ,that gives you a visual!
“The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern is the clear instructions.
Good instructions like the Liberty Jane, and Miche Designs, patterns have!
The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern is variations to change the look or style of a garment with photographic suggestions.
I like patterns with different options for finishing.
Most important part of a pattern is clear, precise directions with visual elements if there is a tricky sewing part.
The pattern pieces of course! All the good instructions in the world (which are very important), and you won’t be able to sew anything without them!
The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern is the photos, which along with clear, concise printed instructions help create garments that fit perfectly.
The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern is the instructions and supporting photographs. I’m a visual learner, if I only have words in a pattern, I’d never be able to make anything.
Clear precise instructions!
The instructions, and pictures!
There are two things that I think are important on pdf patterns. The first — a text only page of instructions. The length of most pattern instructions use up way too much printer ink which is very expensive. The second — consistency in the fabric used in the photos. Sometimes I see the fabric change from one step to the the next and, if it’s a more complex step that needs clarity, that can confuse it a bit. Actually, as far as photos go, I think it could a great idea to use a solid (or minimal print) that has a clear right and wrong side and thread of a different color throughout the instructions. I’ve been sewing since I was a girl and yet there are times on the more difficult patterns when that would make a particular step clearer. I think this would be especially helpful for beginner seamstresses.
The most important part of a pattern is clear and accurate instructions, showing wrong and right sides of fabrics and telling us when we might need to tweak the pattern due to a variance possibly within the pattern. Pictures are wonderful also so we know where there might be an issue.
The instructions are the most important, good photos are also very helpful!
The most important element of a pattern is clearly written instructions with labeled pictures.
The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern is pattern accuracy. I’ve been sewing long enough to figure out how to put things together but having pieces that just don’t fit together properly is frustrating—sleeves & collars, mainly. Accuracy is one of the things I love about Pixie Faire!
The most important useful element or feature in a pattern is the directions hands down
The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern is the order of directions. Many difficult patterns only go together properly if the order is followed.
The most important part of a pattern are clear instructions. I also like having pictures to go along with the instructions!
I like a patter that gives me basics with lots of finishing options
The most important part of a pattern is the accuracy in the size and shape of the pattern pieces
The most useful element on a pattern, I have found, is a photo showing what the instructions are saying. A picture is worth a thousand words.
The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern is clear instructions and lots of photos.
I agree it is very important to have clear instructions, pictures, and tips for doing a certain part. But the most important thing is to have the pattern tested by someone other than the creator to make sure that the instructions, pattern pieces, etc. are correct.
A quick scroll through showed that good fit, instructions and pictures are definitely winning today ; ) I would add that design is important also. A pattern with something unique, new or stylish makes it a winner.
The most important part of a pattern is good instructions! I also like having pictures to go along with the instructions!
The most important part of a pattern are precise pattern pieces and clear instructions. Doll pattern pieces have to be very accurate. I do not like patterns that give a 2 inch height or more – size range, it doesn’t work. One size pattern does not “fit all”. Even with Barbie to Tammy or Gene, each doll has a different body. I have been sewing for dolls of all sizes for more years than I care to count, and speak from a lot of experience. If you want a precise pulled together look and fit, the pattern pieces are very important.
Like most responses the clear direction and pictures is most important but I love historical background on period patterns
The most important part of the pattern is the transformation from paper to what you imagined. And clear instructions
The most important feature of any pattern for me is clarity. I start determining the measurements, type of fabric and notions needed so I am sure I have all assembled and then read thru directions. I prefer summarized in front and then clear pictorial diretions after summary so I print what I need not all with testers photos in back.
The most important element in a pattern is accurate well-fitted and marked pattern pieces because once you’ve cut the fabric, you can’t add fabric if the pieces were designed too small and markings best indicate how they assemble together.
The most important part of the pattern is the fit to the doll. You can use the most expensive fabric and have the best instructions ever written but it will never improve a badly fitting pattern!
The most important part of the pattern is the suggestions for the fabric to use and easy to read instructions.
The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern is great fitting clothes. I like simple ones that my grandchildren can use to dress their dolls.
The most important part of a pattern are clear pictures to go with the instructions. It’s sometimes frustrating to read the directions and the pictures look different than what you’re reading. Thank you for these giveaways! I’m going to check out Girl Charlene- I love working with knits!
The most important parts of a pattern are the clarity of the directions/pictures, and the for.
